Is this game an action-RPG?

That's all I need to know in order to get into this thing. It claims to be like SoM. I've read and read... and like what I see so far. However, if it's menu-based like FF and others, I'm sorry to say I just can't dig that.

What's the verdict?

It's based of SoM as it says.

The current TMW is not really that rich of action. But the new TMW will be.

Well if action == killing monsters then it's only action :P

I consider games with click&watch combat not really as action RPGs. Unfortunately eAthena enforces kind of combat. That's the reason we are programming our own server.

Yeah, neither do I. Sounds like exactly what a buddy and I are looking for, then.

Now, you said the new TMW will be more action-packed. What does that entail? Bosses? More enemies?

Read the wiki.

Well it is a action rpg 'cause you can attack monsters on the same map where you're walking...and its not turn based, and there is no ff-like battle screen.

I keep hearing this eAthena bashing every day, and it's starting to get to me.

Some points to please consider:

1) eAthena and Ragnarok are not click & watch. You've taken the "novice" layer of that environment, but that's really not representative of it at all. Normally you grow out of that stage by level 10 or so. eAthena and Ragnarok are very skills based, one of the most in-depth and balanced skills-based systems I've seen, in fact.

2) eAthena is open source and was good enough to make its serversoft available to you when you needed it. If you go on to develop your own serversoft, then more power to you. There's a lot more eAthena can do that you're not using however, so please try to be fair on that point.

Thanks.

If you can demand that, we can demand fairness on the fact that all we develop for eAthena is away from the resources going into our own development.

I also agree with you on the point about the RO gamesystem.

We are mostly just simplifying our views to get the point of "we're not going to develop upon eAthena" delivered.
