Re: New particle effects
Apart from the fact that I'm not too fond of `attack spells' (since they demote wizards to heavy artillery), the effect doesn't look too much like a fire or an explosion in that it is lacking smoke/contrast and jagged fiery edges. Admittedly, animating a good fire is nontrivial, but smoke at least i...

Shaili,
agreed. I also anti-aliased it a little more.

Re: Magic Mouth
Hi, Good point about the shadow! The mouth is already rather wide (very close to the 50 pixels permitted for NPCs without restructuring the npcs.png and the associated data) so I had to move it a little off-centre in order for the shadow to appear what I expect might qualify as `the right place': mm...

Re: Battle Skirt?
Hi, thank you all for your feedback :-) Saphy, I tried to have the metal look brighter as it turns towards the light source (and darker as it turns away). As someone who has significantly more experience with such things that than I, would you go for increasing intensity whist retaining contrast, fo...

Re: Magic Mouth
Hi, with a 45 degree shadow, it looks like this: mmfinal-shadow.png mmfinal-shadow-demo.png It does look a little like a piece of clip art, unfortunately. Perhaps a particle effect (as suggested by Peavey) could mitigate this, though that would require a client extension (either Crush's changes for ...

Battle Skirt?
Hi, the following is meant to represent an armoured `battle skirt'; I used the regular skirt as a template (after extracting all colour impurities in order to facilitate later dyeing). bskirt-demo.png Would this (a) meet quality and stylistic standards and (b) be of interest (i.e., should I finish i...

Re: Magic Mouth
Crush, alright, you called my bluff ;-) As far as I am concerned, a `magic mouth' works as long as it doesn't look entirely out of place. My problem is that I'm not sure how to draw a pair of disembodied lips at an angle without it looking silly, and really putting it onto the ground would probably ...

Re: Magic Mouth
AxlTrozz,
that is a good point-- but 45 degrees turns out to be precisely the perspective it is in. See, the mouth is on the ground, facing slightly upwards so that people can hear it.

Hi,
here's the grey one with a lip texture applied: and here another attempt at the ethereal one, with (a) slightly better use of transparency and (b) a more distinct aura: Here again, with some background: -- fate

Re: Magic Mouth
Hi, updated images. My attempts at marbling have decreased in quality lately, though I have decided to blame that on the richer scale of grey I have been using. Anyway, here is the base image once more, with a slightly fuller lower lip (as suggested by Vink): magic-mouth-3.png Here is the purplish v...

Re: Magic Mouth
Hi, It is for a `magic mouth', as per http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/Simple_eathena_magic_system Please note that this is a PROPOSAL only at this point. While the patches referenced within are operational (or at least were operational the last time I tried them), they need more testing, and ...

Re: Magic Mouth
Hi, as suggested by Dr Wahl, I eliminated the outline within the aura effect, then tried to better approximate the lips EJlol referenced. As suggested by EJlol and Black Don, I also went for a highlight effect. Here is the base image: magic-mouth-2aa.png Here attempt #1, trying to apply a `marbling'...

Re: Magic Mouth
Thank you for your feedback
It does indeed look better without the outline (which is arguably not needed anyway, due to the `aura' effect.) I will give it another try tomorrow.

Re: Magic Mouth
Good point; it did look rather flat. Here is another attempt: magic-mouth-big.png After marbling: magic-mouth-big-textured-2.png A little better, perhaps, but now the rather simplistic top-down shading I used is more apparent. Still, it's supposed to be `magic', so maybe some odd shading might be ap...
