The Assassin Mask description mentions "Defense +6" but it gives +0 when equipped.

The reasoning was good def or good evade? Not both. It was cloth but offered the same def as proper armor on top of the agi+evade evasion bonuses. As it stands, the mask provides bonuses comparable to the bull helmet and is not even a specially obtained item and also no level/stat restrictions.
I would still like to see the suit have some bonuses moved to the chest piece with a brawler skill check, many other bonuses removed, keeping the evade itself and making it usable for all classes. Evade is sought after by many players and provides a nice alternative to bulky armor. There are pros and cons to each. Having a small dodge bonus could also help with crit evasion, which is also very sought after. If we do alter it, it will probably be done slowly in stages. We've had some shake-up nerfs in the past. The Overlord helmet is another controversial item that should get tackled a bit again. Depends on the lash back.
