I think that if towns are protection zones, and outside it's pvp zone it could be nice, but we have to take care of the abuses. Maybe a "karma" system like in lineage can be good, it means if you kill someone which is too weak to give you damage, your karma increases, if you kill someone which has karma, your karma don't increase.
Then if you have karma you are not protected in towns. Karma can be lost when you kill mobs.

Sorry for my english :/

EDIT : I just saw the post before me, i think moral is quite the same system as karma.

Yeah, I never played lineage, but I didn't think of the concept all by myself :)

You could combine PvP with the karma system, maybe have PvP outside towns, but with the karma concept.

The system works because when your karma is too much (or too little in my suggestion), it will be visible to other players. Because a player who is marked like this will loose items when killed, other players are more likely to take matters into their own hands. Its kind of a self-regulating system.

I think towns are good protection areas with pvp anywhere there are monsters. I also think that there should be a required level before being able to PvP. That way, lower level characters won't just be getting killed by higher level characters all the time.

Old poll but I thought i'd leave my opinion. I voted for the 3rd option.. and I think with some way of helping lower lvl players it could actually work.

i agree with Katze

Duel request as for trade

you want ok you don't want ok and always in respect

now next question would be... "and what if harrasment to have the duel is done by one player to another ?"

That's not a bad idea, except the feel kinda wouldn't be the same, but that's better than nothing I guess.

And Jumpy the punishment could be same as if it were regular abuse/regular spamming.

1) this is my first post so hi everyone, i hope to be around for a while

2) there are arenas, but has a formal decision been made on the future of PvP in tmw?

3) my rambling opinion:

I voted option 2 because as someone else said the troubles of pvp outweigh the benefits I think.

Granted many want PvP outside of towns, I like the karma system (blended with a few other ideas). The karma system could be very cool if it is expanded beyond just PK, used for quests, maybe religion if it is added, or even simple contests. If there were more ways to lose karma other than killing, too, that would make it more interesting. Not completing a timed quest on time or something, entering whatever building without unequipping your weapon (it could be a prompt?). I don't know. It could be a cool way to implement swearing/restrictions. This would be easier to implement map-wise than layered roads, just addition of some check marks in mapmaker (arena, no-pk town, no weapons, etc)

Karma could only drop to a certain level, but killing could be some ultimate offense to drop it below that level temporarily. While the killers karma slowly returns, maybe they won't have access to certain maps (certain lawful towns). When you try to go to town it could say "you are wanted here", with the assumption that the gate guards would immediately grab you and hang your ass, and you're not gonna even bother with that hassle because you're too smart for that. The towns you DO have access to take advantage of you by overcharging (knowing you can't go anywhere else). This, to me is minimal. There should be a huge list of negative effects. The amount of karma you go in the hole could be a direct relation to the level and affiliation (guild or whatever) of person you killed. Cut down someone half your level, you wont be visiting whatever-town for a long long time. To bad too, because its the closest town to your favorite hunting spot.

Newbies before a certain level cannot be killed, because we go back to assumption that famous invisible and inescapable bounty hunters will scour the countryside and hang you.

Duels can take place in arenas or with 'trade' function (use both) without effecting karma. Some duelers don't want to pay for arena access, but grand guild fights will have to take place in an arena because trade function only works with 1 (maybe 2 with a 'duel assist' function or something: as agreed upon in the trade menu). To avoid annoying pop-ups, you have to enable 'willing to duel' button before the 'duel menu' is able to pop up by someone else's request. I hope there is theater seating in the arena.

As for that person that is "annoying" and wont accept duel, that is totally unrelated. You can't lawfully kill someone because they are annoying.

That was way more than I thought to type. I know its all been said in some way shape or form, but there you have it. Thanks

I first thinked about a flaming vote against pvp.. but actualy..most is said already and the topic is old :P.

But i want express my BIG favour for the Duel-idea... if devs could implement some sort of glove slapping; this would rock!

deviexx wrote:i personally chose all around pvp with protection zones.. because.. theives and looters will think twice about their actions considering they could be killed, when death penalties are developed.

also it creates a respect.. players would want to level up more , to become stronger so they dont have to take bs from higher levels heh. a little psychology for ya here ;).

This one good. This rule exist in all online games. Why not here, we must connect cyber to reality....
