I found the mana seed....Now what??? (Spoiler Alert!!!)

So I went walking along the rabbit hole and found me a mana seed, but I cant do anything to it. I try and take it and nothing happens, so I touch it and get chills then back off, COME ON whats the deal. I want to learn magic but Its not helping that I cant interact with the one thing in the game that can actually give me magical powers.

Suggestions people?

The mana seed is sort of the second step in the "quest" to learn magic. Without the context provided by NPCs like Wyara the potion seller, I can understand how it would be confusing.
