Forum Accounts

Post by Chicka-Maria »

I noticed there are alot of forum spammers making new accounts all the time and even sockpuppetting polls which is not fair to any player at all so here is my suggestion:

Why not have forum accounts manually accepted by Admins/GM's/Devs? it seems all forum accounts are accepted even the ones that are alts. someone can have 20 accounts if they wanted and its not right. what i have seen on other games are accounts for forums are manually accepted within 1-2 days. I think this would be great for tmw so we wouldnt have like 20 people have 50 accounts each, Thats just crazy. anyway this is my opinion to help stop sockpuppetting and help a bit more then automatic account acceptions would. auto acception accounts are convinent for admins and them but its not convinent for players who acctually use this forum for good use.

This would be benificial for all Players who play tmw and read the forums.

let me know what you all think, ;)

I totally agree. At least, that perfectly worked on wiki. No more spammers AT ALL!

Unfortunately, some developers and admins don't care about this problem in a creative way. After lots of attempts to attract people, who might solve this issue, I found they don't care about that as it's easier to solve it with prohibitions than with a creative way.

When I see that Platyna locks my topic about general question and Crush answers in a manner "And what do you expect me to do about that?", I know they don't need our advice at all.

Evidently, if they can discard voices, they can figure out which ones are good, and thus they can collect enough number of good voices. But who cares?
Do you expect they will make an update in the forum code, that will do all the validations automatically? And who will do it? Ah?

And no more new contributors either. Manual account acceptance is a huge barrier.

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

I don't agree. On wiki, I accepted over 25 accounts. None were spammers.

Depends, most times people play the game before they become a developer towards it like most of the devs for this game. they didnt just find tmw and say hey im gonna help develop it. they acctually played the game first. So the barrier is there but to a certain extent. I noticed this kind of acception for accounts acctually helps the game so banned accounts cant just make another. or someone doesnt have to make 50 accounts to sockpuppet or whatever their buissness is for making so many.

How do you suggest to determine if a new forum account will be a spammer or not?
And what is the definition of a spammer?

But we fixed NRUs, and now you have to have 20 posts to vote in polls.

Though this is true, its no problem for a spam account to reach 20 posts within 3 hours or less.

Er, what? Our problem with spammers is completely separate from our problem with sockpuppets.

Agreed there o11c, people seemed to assume that my poll was sockpuppeted by new accounts, but I suspect older accounts (aside from the one I know of for sure, of course). If anything, I'd say players should have to register by linking their forum account to an existing player account, that way they wouldn't have the veil of anonymity to hide behind, as is usually the case on here. Of course, that would be complicated, so I'll leave it at that. But it would be helpful, in the cases of those who are known to sockpuppet regularly.

Report spam, and do not answer it, it will be deleted. This is the Internet, spam is everywhere and moderators are to remove it.

TMW is OSS and in this spirit the forums are guided as well, anyone can register an account, it is not going to change.

Regards.
