[DIS] Maintaining consistency. Color palettes?
[DIS] Maintaining consistency. Color palettes?
Maintaining consistency with color palettes might help out development for different object materials. If we made pallets for different materials such as gold, as guidelines, we may end up with a good work development. Each palette will be a suggestion by the user that posts it. If you think you can create a better palette please do. Use no more than 7 colors and it is encouraged to use even less. Here is an example of a gold palette containing only 4 colors and an example of the palette being used in an object. As its not necessary to provide an example of the palette being used, its a good idea to do so anyways, I won't expect you to. Encase you do provide an example make sure the image size is 32x32 pixels or larger. Don't forget to label your palette. I labeled this "GOLD", keep in mind if its not obvious its probably not a very good palette in the first place.
If we can keep off-topic discussion to a minimum it would be great. This includes any discussion on if the idea is good or not or what you think someone could have done better on a palette. Simply if your going to make a post make sure your providing me/us with a new palette. Don't argue that your palette was better than the previous or the one continued after; If it is people will notice something this obvious.
Another palette option in this mask is also acceptable for gold.

Re: Maintaining consistency. Color palettes?
For those using GIMP, they could share their palette files.
A GIMP palette file is a .gpl file saved in their gimp configuration folder under palettes/
when GIMP exits.
The syntax is rather simple, but GIMP generates them automatically.
They can be used in the palettes tab as a swatch apart from the image.
They don't force the image to become indexed. They can be used with RGBa mode.
GIMP palette files can be used with Inkscape.

Here are some wip's atm I'm focusing on metals. Other objects have more to do with how they are textured.

Re: Maintaining consistency. Color palettes?
I'm bumping this because it is a good idea. With color pallets that we can draw from, it would help understand what colors should be used for shading (a little more of #736F6E on the lower right). We can also create a recolorable pallet to connect with our other colors.
Current character is "Abolish".

I think this is a very good idea. However defining only the palette is not enough IMO. Texture is very important to. I included my own gold palette. one without any real texture, and one with a bit better texture. I also added your palette with the bit better texture, so it's easier to compare.

agreed 100%, although your center image is the best for shading, still odd though. (my previous are pretty much all wrong IMO, from what I have now learned)

Re: [DIS] Maintaining consistency. Color palettes?
wombat has created this pallet for dye in all 6 channels. seems like the proper thread or it.
Re: [DIS] Maintaining consistency. Color palettes?
I suggest adding it to the wiki if you want it to be used, instead of this wormhole here.

The wiki is even less used than the forum.EJlol wrote:I suggest adding it to the wiki if you want it to be used, instead of this wormhole here.

But information is much easier to find on the wiki, provided that you link it properly.Ali-G wrote:The wiki is even less used than the forum.EJlol wrote:I suggest adding it to the wiki if you want it to be used, instead of this wormhole here.
Any results from this thread, for example, belongs to the Graphic Guidelines page:
