your opinion on foreign language on general chat?
rule number 5 states that thou shalt Speak English on public chat (You can speak another language if you whisper).
at times, i still do see people chatting in general with their native languages... what do you think?
personally, i think its quite annoying at times. people come and say hi, and the next few words, i can't make out what its about @_@ i'm okay if they're conversing with their friends, but... why talk espanol to me senor?! XD

I speak English in public chat, but sometimes practice other languages in whispers or in party chat.
Personally, I think this type of game is a wonderful opportunity to learn other languages. For that reason, I'll probably start playing the German server some day, as a chance to learn the language.

Re: your opinion on foreign language on general chat?
Public is considered anywhere people are gathered. For example. If PlayerA and PlayerB are sitting in the Crushland town center and chatting in spanish, this is breaking the rule. If A and B are chatting in spanish on a map and are alone, it is not considered breaking the rule. However, if someone else enters the area, it is then considered public, and the English in public rule pertains.
Recap: I see 2 players alone chatting in spanish, no big deal. If someone enters that frame, then they must speak english. Inside of town is the only place where I require english 100% of the time.

We have been through that topic a thousand times. Let me recapitulate it for you.
1. When you have a large online service like TMW, you have to make sure that certain laws aren't violated on it, or you can be prosecuted yourself.
2. In order to do so, you must monitor and moderate public communication.
3. You can only monitor and moderate what you understand
4. For that reason we are forced to assume, that anything spoken in a language the gamemaster doesn't understand is the worst, most illegal thing imaginable.
5. It's hard enough to have a proper GM coverage in one language, we can't manage to cover dozens of languages.
6. To give the players some security what they can and can't say, we decided to use English as the most common denominator.
tl;dr: The "speak english in public" rule is required to comply with the law.
