Magic Training

Post by Paladin »

Do any of you guys know a good way to train by General Magic Skill from level 1 to 2? I'm trying to find a good spell that doesn't cost much and gives good xp :)

Thanks!

I usually use #chiza and #lum
lifestones are a dime a dozen (any decent mage will trade them for bug legs/maggot slimes, if that), and knives are garbage loot when people hunt red slimes. I usually keep a stock of 50 or so so I can train future characters in magic.

I'd give you mine but I'm not likely to get online until next weekend.

I'm level 30 and the black scorps normally kill me before I get close to talk to the sword.

Thanks about the #lum, though.

But, if you use #lum and then a spell that gives no exp, and then #lum again, will the second #lum give any xp?

The #lum spell only gives exp if the other player is hurt... Also only this counts to Elenore to learn Life Magic lvl 2 later.

Important is to alternate the spells - that trains much more. Also good spells for the begining are #kalmurk (one root and one maggot slime) to spawn maggots and #flar (one sulphur powder) to attack with a distance attack. Roots and maggot slimes are only a timequestion to get, sulphur powder a mage can transform from ash.

Good luck ;)

@ZdIn @o11c Thanks for your help!

The sword in the cave won't talk, and I can't even see the sword in Dimond's Cove. What should I do? I'm using the latest release possible on Windows 7.

The Swort at DiamondsCove is on the other side.
To go there Start at DiamondsCove and go North and then West over the Bridge and then South.
The Swort is now on the East-Sied of this Map where also the Cat-Cave it is.
But feel free to whisper me in Game.

If you can't find any of us to help you in game, remember that Auldsbel and wyara give very fine advices. It would be wonderful if Elanore could give hers more than once.

now a summary as I see it:

Magic experience is NOT regular experience, the only way to have an approximate indication is abizit. see the complete answer's meanings on the wiki:
http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/Magic
  • Heal (lum at level 1) only badly wounded players (up to 400 regular experience). You may need to ask other to be cooperative since you need to be within 1 tile distance to the healing target. Healing (badly wounded) yourself brings magic and healing experience but no regular experience.
  • Try not to cast the same spell twice: insert an abizit spell between two lums for example
  • Prefer spells that use items (ie prefer, kalmurk, parum, lum, chiza and flar to itenplz and abizit. #parum boo or #parum lurk can be used as soon as "your control is still troublesome".
  • Prefer higher level spells to lower ones (ie prefer #kalrenk to #kalmurk, #patloree or #kularzufrill to #parum...)
  • Sagatha will be happy if you shear (chichip) Mouboos or Fluffies or kill scorpions (any kind), she will get angry at you if you kill squirrels, Mouboos or Fluffies.
At the moment, there is a strong disadvantage to choose the dark path of magic (i.e.killing the sick Mouboo or cutting the druid tree branch) as there is nothing to balance astral magic loss.

Be also aware that you must disable manaplus colored text when hugging the druid tree (as if you marry); there is a manaplus client-server issue if you use it.

Oh i was not aware that there was a bug ... thanks for the heads up. :D
I personally had a lot of stock up of raw logs from grinding on logheads for roots and xp, so I alternated ... #lum #manpahil #parum boo #manpahil #abizit #lum ... ad infinitum ... I usually ran out of mana long before I ran out of ingredients and having 3 spells to alternate between kept me from forgetting which one to do next if I happened to run out of mana and had to take a break.
Lifestones are always useful for a quick heal during a fight, you can just hit 'c' on ManaPlus and that'll automatically cast #lum on your character if you have targeted a monster or nothing, or #inma another player if you target them.
I guess one thing to watch out for in PvP areas is to not hit 'x' and attack the person you just healed ..... I've done that a couple times >_> [Hitting left shift will clear any targeting :)]

I suppose you could restat to all intelligence, and borrow some robes and stuff from a friend, sit on the menhir, and try to snag people who've just died for some nice xp for Elanore :)
