Monk Tutorial

Post by Johnny »

WARNING: Many people may consider this to be stupid, pointless, too hard, etc. They will most definetly try to discourage you from trying this. Perhaps some are right. But if you're completely bored and want a challenge feel free to try it out.

Requirements: 1 fairly established Character preferably Level 30 or over and an additional character started fresh.

Note: While fighting as a Monk, fight as much as possible with no weapon for an extra challenge :) Do not wear any armor which will decrease your agility.

Step 1: Tell Sorfina with your new character you don't care to hear her crap.

Step 2: Go by the nearest banker and then switch characters to your more powerful character. Bank 200 gp. Switch to the weaker low level character.

Step 3: Collect the 200 gp. Go to Malivox in the desert to reset your stats.

Step 4: Put most of your stats into Agility and Vitality (For greater a challenge put everything into Agility)

Step 5: Do every Tulimshar Quest with your weaker character. Switch characters to the stronger character to collect items for the quests. For a while your weaker character will level solely on quest exp.

Step 6: If you need to level you will have to go through the headaches of killing silkworms and Muave Plants in Hurnscald. You will level very slowly.

Step 7: Once you get powerful enough just sit by Imec and collect daily quest exp. Kill Scorpions with your stronger character and give the Tails to a Banker. Then collect them from the nearest banker and give them to Imec. You should level a little more on quest experience.

Step 8: As you hit more levels and can get more quests just collect items for the quests with your powerful character and have the weaker character complete the quests.

Step 9: Once you reach level 20 with the weaker character, collect bat wings with the stronger character and pass them along to the weaker character through the banker. That should level you for a while.

Step 10: If you haven't gotten sick of this by now, and have maxed out either Agility or Vitality, fill up the other one.

Step 11: If you are really determined and haven't given up and gotten to level 60 get the Speed Skill.

Step 12: If you can get some items which will increase your Agility or Defense. This way your character becomes faster and more durable.

Step 13: If you manage to reach a high level or get really sick of it, feel free to sit in Hurnscald and BS with the rest of everyone.

The goal is to make your character as fast as possible WITHOUT using any weapons. If your attacks can be even mildly effective with only your fists then you have succeeded in becoming a Monk.

This ends the tutorial.

You can skip the tutorial at the beginning by using the "yes i know everything" option on the npc. but i know where your coming from when saying the beginning is hard for newbies. and for my mage i prefer to put vitality then speed. lasts alot longer in battle and gives you that boost to heal fast if your in candor and such.

The funny part is that my Monk leveled up to 15 just by doing quests. He's not powerful at all. Can't even kill a maggot without almost dying lol but I think that will change as his agility goes up. He'll probably get faster and start dodging attacks better. Yeah, it def helps when you skip the tutorial because by doing that Hassan actually lets you go without stopping you. I wish I would have known that before...

been there, done that.

And I didn't cheat by using another character to collect stuff. (Edit: I mean, it's cheating when playing a conduct character)

Right but becoming an Archer and leveling up to 99 and THEN resetting your stats to suit your needs defeats the purpose of it being challenging. Most people even advertise that being an Archer is the best way to level up no matter what class you decide to become. Being an archer makes things extremely unbalanced. So isn't it cheating anyways if you're using another class to just boost yourself up?

I have a level 43 character who has never wielded a weapon, worn armor, or used the storage/bank.

Thats awesome. Its a shame that the Brawl skill doesn't work because that would even add more to it. Initially, thats what I wanted to do but when you level up all your agility only, its virtually impossible to kill anything except for herbal plants, clovers, or silkworms. Mostly because even 1 hit from a maggot for some reason could almost wipe you out.
