What about in game pets?
I am thinking that it would be pretty cool to have in game pets (cohorts) that characters in came can have. Similar to that in WoW. The way I am thinking is that you would have to do a quest that shows your worthiness to have one, and you would be able to choose between several animals depending on class. At the same time, once you get the animal cohort, you would share exp with it and it can level up and become stronger as well. This might be something to try out to see how it works. Just a thought.

Re: What about in game pets?
+1 I like this idea as well
Can i have an Hawk as pet please?
But first we need to define what should a pet can do and how.
I define the pet as follow:
The Pet has own Exp Stats and HP
has its own walkable way z.B walk (as Dogs etc.) or fly (as Hawk etc.)
If the Pet die it will respawn on my last respawnpoint when i die and respawn there.
I must feed the pet with food that fits for it all other can i pickup.
it should be switch with wispers in Modes. Possible modes are : Protect me, hunt alone, hunt the same target as me, just follow me
The Pet should not get more power as his Char. Say when i level 90 the pet max level is 45 sa it can has as max the halve level,HP etc as me.
and please it should be ran around me and not as fixed as in GermanTMW it is.

Wasn't there a TMW fork which had a pet system? Maybe it could be merged upstream.

Re: What about in game pets?
The german TMW (like Gatekeeper said ) has pets, but not such like this - there they are like any other item (but animated and near your char, not on you char) -> More HP (and more Attack?). They not run alone or can level.

Pets are in upstream eAthena. But the eAthena codebase - ours or theirs - is a horrible mess. Cleaning it up is far more important than adding "cool" features.

Re: What about in game pets?
the brazil server also has pets..they dont do much they just stick by your side and they somewhat fight with you. I think this would be pretty neat to have.

Last time I checked servers used pets like separate items.Chicka-Maria wrote:the brazil server also has pets..they dont do much they just stick by your side and they somewhat fight with you. I think this would be pretty neat to have.
While I don't mind this system I'd rather have a better coded system where pets are mobs rather than items.
Back to the subject of adding pets to the game- I was talking to a guy a while ago, can't remember his name but he had a tmwserver and he had pets that were actual mobs but they followed the player, help the player fight etc and obeyed the player's commands in chat.
IMO a system like that would be the best way to go. Maybe with a pet GUI of some sort though but as previously stated it is more important to polish up the code rather than make more that will need fixing. I'd suggest if you really want a pet system ingame now you'll have to work on it yourself because the devs have their hands full. If you are going to try and take it on though then I'd be glad to try and help you.

Should GMs ban the pets for autofollow?
