Love Triangle quest

Post by blackrazor »

I just wanted to say "Thank-you" for the Love Triangle quest. It was an awesome task, with a great storyline. I really enjoyed following the story; it was sultry and bawdy (while still being clean enough for younger viewers) and great fun to read.

I have just a couple small proposals regarding it.

1) Since you have already paid Golbenez for the memories, it would be nice if you could still access them, even after the quest is over, in the same way as you can still read Reid's diary afterwards. This would allow players to still enjoy the story from time to time, when they come back to visit the inn.

2) My second proposal is more controversial (as least to me), in that I believe there are good arguments for and against it. I think the number of Rubies required could be reduced from 50 down to 30, the number of Yeti Tears reduced from 30 down to 15, and Undead Ears reduced from 25 down to 13, and Undead Eyes reduced from 20 down to 10.

It's great to have a long and challenging quest, but I personally found that past those numbers, it just got repetitive, and especially at the graveyard can make conflicts with other players. In order to minimize that, I ended up buying the remaining parts after farming half of them myself. I found it less conflict to farm yellow slimes for iron ore and red slimes for gold (vendor trash), and just buy what I needed, after having a good solid taste of what those monsters had to offer me in terms of playing experience.

When writing this quest, I put the main focus on the storyline, so I'm very happy to hear that this is recognized and appreciated. :)

The original reasoning behind those high numbers is the thought that high level players play a lot on the graveyard anyway, with the goal to reach level 99, and the quest puts a use to the items collected during that time.
When writing the quest, my main character was still below level 80, so for setting the numbers I had to rely on estimations and suggestions. By now I played through most parts of the quest (I still need to collect some more rubies) and found out that the amount for some of the required items really can be discouraging. My plan was to reconsider the amounts after I finished the quest myself, but due to being busy I nearly haven't played for some months and just recently found more time for it again. So I suppose we could rethink the amounts now.
The numbers you suggested fit to my experience to when grinding those items starts to get really lengthy. :) Does anyone else have more suggestions and feedback on those numbers?

Since there doesn't seem to be a demand for further discussion, I decreased the amount of items needed: https://github.com/themanaworld/tmwa-se ... 8537e22228
I also increased the experience you get when a Jack'O Soul is rejected.

Sorry, i saw this post too late, i dislike this changing. So many players finished this quest successfully and got a robe and some players finished it more times. So it is really possible to do. Yes you need many many items, but you have something to do at high level at least. And its really possible to buy needed items and friends helping each other. Its one of the few quest, where friends helping each other to get all items. Or they help by killing yetis at least. Its such a cool reward, one of my favorite clothes. What happen next, changing the requirements of terranite quest!? Like i said, many finished this quest successfully at past, yes many items are needed, but to get all finally, thats really cool. I prefer wasting time by collecting items for quest instead wasting time by hunting monsters only for exp.

I did not do it at that time, but it is never too late to do it, so <3 Thank You <3 too.

Thank you again because , in my opinion, this game has a future if it relies more on content than on grinding.

I do think that the problem of item number to get relies more on mob availability and respawn rate than than in the number itself. It is related with active players' number too:
  • Access to zombies is difficult when there is to little players, access to Zombie drops is difficult when there is too many players. I suggest another place where they could be accessed with less skels and ladies and/or a slight increase of ( ear, eye, heart) drop frequencies.
  • Access with Yetis better since new maps provide a lot of places. 30 tears is a lot but still feasible, and much easier when you team up just as we are obliged to do in GY or in snake pit; I do think that this orientation is to be kept though it is more difficult to team now that the active player number has been divided by 2.
  • Rubies: Getting 50 of them is not that difficult when you have a warrior or a fast archer. It was the first requirement I fulfilled at the time the quest was released with my multipurpose mage (I was little under 90 if I remind well). We have a lot of time to get them before reaching 85 even if Towels accentuate the pressure on them . There are 6 spots (2 in mine, one under Hurnscald, 3 in terranite cave) dimensioned to various player levels even if I think there could be another larger one somewere else
.

If you choose to reduce numbers anyway, I think the numbers are a bit low to keep high levels busy until there is new content for them. (the diseased hearts are no longer very attractive, maybe they could become an extra daily quest?)

Thank you again for the job :)

It's possible, but as I said in my previous post, it gets discouraging. The new numbers I chose are very close to blackrazors suggestions, but they match my personal experience to when collecting the items turns to frustration. Maybe it isn't as discouraging for everyone, that's what's making this balancing decisions difficult. But if your worry is about not having enough to do at higher levels, I think a better solution is to work on more new content instead.
Especially content which has some replay value, as Candor. Speaking of this, the new quest from v0id is repeatable and designed to be a challenge for high level players.

I've done the quest 3 or 4 times, and this matches my experience too.

I agree. The game is better enhanced with more content rather than more grinding for existing content.
