It's not bad for a first try. You already understood that you need a fixed number of shades per color and that you can blend them through dithering.
But what you still need to learn is how to place light and dark shades to give an object a three-dimensional appearance. Here is a good tutorial: http://www.derekyu.com/?page_id=225 I hope that we will see more from you in the future.
