Anyone is welcome to help Develop tmw here is how.

Post by meway »

Hello if your reading this your intrested in learning how to develop for this project and don't know where to start. I am creating a group that you can be part of as well as your friends/family whoever to help teach how to do exactly this. Anyone can become a developer or help develope the game. I will be teaching different parts of development (scripting, map making, tmw art standards, ??creating your own server for testing?? ect.. and as a group you can teach eachother. That is part of becomming a developer

Getting started: use your favorite irc client or (internet relay chat client) to connect the sites irc server. For those who do not know what that is Visit mibbit.com and find the "chat now" button (currently at the bottom left)
server: irc.themanaworld.org
channel: #3vent
irc is similar to IM (instant messenger) by using mibbit.com you don't need to download anything although an irc client is recommended.

Please do not discuss anything being developed outside of this room. If you are counterproductive you will be banned from this channel. Our goal here is to teach new developers how to develop using small groups by creating events. #tmw-event is for offical development.

I hope to see you soon and if I'm not in the room check http://meway.webs.com/3vent1.zip for updates! If you would like to update this yourself simply give me a link in a PM on this forum.

This sounds great and a nice idea to encourage people to get more involved.

Thanks Meway. I'd like to have a look at this.

That's a great idea, meway. You should also announce this ingame at regular intervals, because not everyone reads the forum.
  • former Manasource Programmer
  • former TMW Pixel artist
  • NOT a game master

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Ive done this, and helped steer people towards the channel while he's not online. This is a great opportunity and i wouldn't mind helping out as well :)

Perhaps you (or better themanaworld) coould also create a special git hub repository which could be used to hold the result of your work and/or be used as a sandbox. A Trello project board would also be interesting to cover the range of the developping tools. (I do like this project management tool and use it with my students).
And if you some energy left, wiki development part would welcome your ideas too: have a look to the project at:

report ideas on discussion page or in the forum topic: Wiki: Development part

Everything you said is agreeable and I thank you for that but I will not be using trello as it is not as efficient as I hoped. Also we will not be a "sandbox" we are just here to learn. The info/data we develop will be released under a license that allows everyone to use such as creative commons, gpl, gpl2 ect..

The sandbox I suggested was just for github and designed especially to learn Git: it would be helpful to have this kind of space to be able to get familiar with it, without interfering the main development activity.
Anyway, in this purpose , Kandiman wrote the working with Git wiki page which is up to date, I also like the GitHib help pages which are very clear and rather easy to follow, and especially git-cheatsheet by Andrew Patterson which helps to understand how git works with a few mouse clicks (can also be used as a memo).
edit: missing link

We have began working on the prescripting portions of things and I believe we are still thinking on concept. Soon we will be teaching scripting and than go onto pixel art. If anyone is intrested please view the top. Also the above link has been heavily updated so if you havent updated your zip folder that would be a good idea.
