Lately I've had the feeling that TMW is very short-staffed. There are just not enough developers, artists, etc.
I think the solution to this is getting more players, specifically linux users. That's how the current developers came to be in the project, and that's how I think future ones will join. It'd also be fun to have lots more players, wouldn't it?
This thread is for ideas on how to get the word out how fun and cool TMW can be.
One thing that comes to mind is that TMW was once featured in a Brazilian linux magazine. To this day there are still plenty of BR players because of this. Perhaps we could poke a few journalists?
It'd also be good for players to post on semi-related forums they are members of to promote the game. Not spam or shameless promotion, but if a compatible subject comes up..
Also, is mana+ in Ubuntu? How about other popular distros? Can we get it included in more? How about popular windows free-software bundles?

I know one thing that definitely grabs my attention a lot and that's Twitter. Following a project to see it's progression (similar to github) it's fun and shows you where it's headed. Also trends are just fun anyway. #themanaworld #tmw see! I'm already having fun with this!

- Update (strongly) the web site with a better look and feel, include a (small) browser game and screen shots and videos, utils (stat calculator-simulator)
- There is a very nice developer/gamer community on Mac OS and MacOS is nix now (OSX ( http://www.insidemacgames.com http://www.macgamefiles.com ...))
- Dropping windows users (developers-artists) even a bit would be definitely a strategic mistake

Android is sure a very good way to bring more players to game but you need to make it more popular on the appplaystore.
Re: Marketing
Making public noise. That is website posts every week/month. Can you follow that via RSS Reader?
Having a dedicated Marketing/Sales team to promote tmw to magazines and blogs?
So pretty much, carrying the message to new people.

What about using social media?
Why isn't there an official TMW Twitter feed?
Why is the TMW facebook page not actively maintained?
Where are the development blogs?
What about viral marketing (giving players an incentive to advertise TMW themself)?

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.
You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Blog needs bloggers (developers) to be looked at.
We have better than a blog: we have a forum and it is active.
I think they already do it .What about viral marketing (giving players an incentive to advertise TMW themself)?

I made a package for Fedora. I also found somebody who did a tmw package for Fedora. (He recently changed it to depend on manaplus instead of mana)Also, is mana+ in Ubuntu? How about other popular distros? Can we get it included in more? How about popular windows free-software bundles?

- Rate Manaplus on SourceForge:

To the active Team: TMWC?

Progress inspires progress. It's circular, but it holds. Perhaps more than that, visible progress inspires progress.
Open development is based upon the assumption that there are always more resources out in the open than will ever be recognised. Not least because people tend to be working on their own projects more than looking around to see who's doing stuff and sorting out formalities.
Most development these days happens on IRC. While this is nice for those involved, being a real time transient medium and such, it means that a lot of people don't see what's going on, and talented lurkers don't see the process that they could join.
Yes, the forums are a troll and drama magnet. This is because there are people here, and I'm sure not everyone is here just to heckle
. IRC might be a little more accessible on Freenode (I should update my signature), but that's still less than just checking the forums, which come with history and doesn't require a persistent connection.
Perhaps the last major visible effort on the forums has been the Graveyard Project - [Concept music thread which revived things] [Main thread] [Wall design] [Tombstone thread] [Music selection thread] [Item thread] - the Main thread at least is a very good reference of how things can be organised and led in an accessible way.
The main thread got to three pages in the first weekend - there have almost always been enough people around and interested, but the limiting factor has always been in people figuring out what's going on, what needs to be done, and what they can do. Compare activity then to activity in the development forums now.
I've been toying with the idea of creating a new area for the now repurposed moubootaur caverns. It shouldn't require that much work, and who knows what might happen from there?
