Language building
Language building
Hello All,
I was curious if it would be possible to make a language building in each town?
What is a language building? Its a building with a hallway and many doors, each door leads to a room were
a person can speak there language in and not have to whisper, but only in that room. Hence it would have a French,
Spanish, German, Italian, etc room.
Looking forward to how people feel about this?
Prsm

Re: Language building
Same question as usual when people suggest non-english chat: Who administrates these rooms and makes sure that there is no illegal activity taking place there?

- former TMW Pixel artist
- NOT a game master
Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.
You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
Re: Language building
Nobody monitors private chat (whispers, group chat, guild chat) now. Like private chats, these language rooms would be actively chosen by players, which means they could also leave those conversations they find offensive without missing other aspects of gameplay.Crush wrote:Same question as usual when people suggest non-english chat: Who administrates these rooms and makes sure that there is no illegal activity taking place there?
Let's ask the same people who don't monitor private conversations to also not monitor these language rooms.

Kind of immersion breaking, but that thing died long ago anyway.

Re: Language building
We all know that "english in public" is a pretty flexible rule anyway. I don't really see a language building actually being used when they can simply find a private area to chat just about anywhere in-game.
Prsm, what problem would such a building potentially solve?
(slightly offtopic)
When I ran TAW I had many players that spoke many languages. It didn't seem to be a problem. With the help of google translate and some common sense GMs could easily enforce the rules. Not only that but the players were generally polite about it. If a newcomer didn't speak their language they would more often than not switch to English so the newcomer could join the conversation. I personally do not believe in the "English In Public" rule and think it's function is easily taken by the "Have some etiquette" rule.

I and I am sure the other gm's have been called racist for enforcing the rule "Speak English in Public". This would allowMadCamel wrote: Prsm, what problem would such a building potentially solve?
people to speak there native tongue on mass without retribution from management!

Re: Language building
There's a clear need for other languages. Right now, players join language-specific guilds.
Guild chat itself is a hack, and it's not a very flexible way to change languages. We can find something better.

Re: Language building
Well, if there's people calling you racist for enforcing that rule, they certainly won't change their mind when you start making "special zones" for them and other "people like them".prsm wrote:I and I am sure the other gm's have been called racist for enforcing the rule "Speak English in Public". English in public is a very important rule, it prevents chaos and it actually helps people learn english! I have learned a lot of my english in my first years on TMW and I know lots of people who speak english better thanks to TMW or other games that ask you to speak and understand english.

Re: Language building
There is no need to administrate anything; just as you cannot moderate players who want to speak their languages in places where it disturbs nobody. And speaking another language in "general" tab is not forbidden anyway. Non english channels could be moderated by the founders and removed in case of complaints. Just as Tiana said: keep it KISS, and let manage the problems when they occur.Crush wrote:Same question as usual when people suggest non-english chat: Who administrates these rooms and makes sure that there is no illegal activity taking place there?
