Competitive Gameplay - nothing wrong with it
Competitive Gameplay - nothing wrong with it
Just an FYI to players that have somehow come to the conclusion that the Grave Yard should be this perfectly peaceful place where you go to grind endlessly and everyone shares equally and heals each other constantly. There is no rules against a competitive style play in this game.
Soccer/Futbol player: "The other team is harassing me"
Referee: "How are they harassing you?"
Soccer/Futbol player: "It's not fair, I can't make a goal because they keep stealing the ball from me."
Being betsanced is not harassment. Dragging mobs into others is not harassment. Kaflosh is not harassment. Killing all of "your" mobs is not harassment. Making XP faster than you is not harassment. Getting more drops than you is not harassment. Refusing to heal you is not harassment. All of this is legal game play.
The server.themanaworld.org does not have rules against competitive play and it is better because of it.

I disagree, to the extent that we're not dealing with a PK environment. The whole idea behind the light & dark dichotomy was to enrich the gaming experience, not to set people against eachother.Being betsanced is not harassment. Dragging mobs into others is not harassment.
end of line.

Re: Competitive Gameplay - nothing wrong with it
Sorry but soccer is a bad example.
in soccer you have category.
Senior dont play with Junior and professional dont play with amateur.
Only while special events.
here you have a lv 50 who try to play in gy and a lv90 coming with is banshee+potion+extra.
So..where do you see comtetitive gameplay?
When there is a competition all have the same(equal) chance to win.
So the only chance you have to win, is to play with a more weaker player? its so competitive.
when you have a lot of gp, you can find easy to play this way(pots+heal+extra).
There is a lot of ppl who have a banshee but not the gp to use it properly.
Competitive?
of course when someone bring monsters its too fun, its easy exp for all the players.
When you can..only when ppl support you, even if you puke a lot.
Coz its seems not everybodies is aware that a lot of player have huge lags in the gy.
They are all the time in the gy but they didnt notice why a lot of player ask a lot of heal because of the lags.
So they choose who they want to heal...only those who adopt their codes and for the others....what others???
I give you one name, Manacool, feel free to ask him if he can play quietly in the gy, and how many times he die in 20 min. If nobody heal him what he can do?
Oh yes, its so funny to see how weak are the others while we are so powerful.
Its so competitive.
Its an interactive gameplay, but some want all. So competitive is better.
I dont see anything to use all the tips that Frost give us, i just said i will not use them,
and like this justify some supicious behaviour.
Who want to use them, have just to do it.
So finally, nowhere you see a contest between senior and junior.
Here yes, Senior are so glad about this, about this feeling of superiority.
I can!! you cant... its so competitive.
I have all the rare items? oh you no?? so competitive.
I have all the gp and the tips to have them..Oh you no?? so competitive.
I have all the reward while the event...hey, its the game !! so competitive.
You are so pride with nothing.
I'm fine with that too, but do not tell generalities where there is not.
Have a nice day

However, in TMW we don't have any other place to nicely get exp. That's why lvl 50 and lvl 90 players are mixed. Unless another grinding map opens for a specific level range, this problem will remain.Saint Tropez wrote:Sorry but soccer is a bad example.

I don't see anything wrong in getting all drops or exp... It can be a bit annyoning when you're at a lower level. But once you're able to do it, why not doing it ? Other players did it before you, now it's your turn to finally get drops.
About banshee archers : they pay a lot to be able to get quick exp and drops... When you pay for something, you don't want it to be useless, you want it to be the best possible right ?
From this, should I understand that you consider having everything when you begin something is normal ?Saint Tropez wrote:[...]

Imagine how boring would be life if you had everything you want whenever you want ? You would have no possibilities of evolution...
So yeah, once you've worked (played) hard to get what you have, you can be proud of it, I see nothing wrong in it...
You've got experience, and you can help beginners when they start, what's wrong with it ? If you had everything at the beginning, you would not have any experience, and you would not be able to help the others.

Thank you for your responses, I'm in complete agreement
Incredibly, you are suggesting that 'betsancing each other' and 'dragging mobs' somehow become against the rules and in effect ending most of the primary game play. Common courtesy towards other players is something I believe you and I have something in common with but certainly it can not be enforced. I'm simply trying to reveal basic facts about game play in TMW. The GMs simply can not block players' actions that are consistent with normal gameplay, even when it irritates you.
Saint,
The Grave Yard was not intended to keep Junior TMW players safe from mobs nor from the effects of legal gameplay. There's no rule forcing high level players to yield unto others in the Grave Yard or any other area. There are plenty of other maps to play on, e.g. Nivalis, lots of challenging mobs there.

Re: Competitive Gameplay - nothing wrong with it
Corner cases like this and their (ab)use by some players makes me to seriously dislike banshee archers, to be honest. I'm personally really happy when there is team without bansheers on battlefield. It really no fun to face kill steals for about 70% of my monsters unless I want to play using the very same overaggressive banshee archer setup (which is not a case as I really prefer to be mage and fail to understand why it should be unbalanced so much and some single setup pwns all).Chayenne wrote:+1

Ahh, these are really mindblasting. Even for persons who got used to dealing with hex, bit ops and somesuch...*goes back to struggling with nibble_masks *

Re: Competitive Gameplay - nothing wrong with it
Please don't misunderstand, I enjoy playing with a team when there is good common courtesy and teamwork. In fact, when playing with a group of forest bow archers, I'll only wield the banshee in order to take out skulls, JackO, over-spawned mobs, etc. On the other hand; the more banshee archers and bull helm warriors that populate the grave yard the more pressure there is on opening more difficult areas and having tougher mobs in game. This is a good thing.t3st3r wrote:Corner cases like this and their (ab)use by some players makes me to seriously dislike banshee archers, to be honest. I had only wanted to point out that some players are crying "harassment" because of perfectly legal game play. A player that has worked very hard to achieve high level items and GP for potions should not be made to feel as if they aren't allowed to implement in game.
