i've heard of some people who wanted to make tmw forks. but i never heard that one of them developed well. is there anyone who speaks french and can tell us how they are doing? according to the screenshots they didn't do much but the screenshots on our homepage are outdated, too.

Edit: the project seems to be dead. the last news is from "12 juillet 2005".

There isn't anything playable yet. just some screenshots full of rpgmaker tiles and sprites. But the server backend might be interesting. its open source:
http://www.splamm.com/elysium/

Edit: Forget about it. i've looked at the source. it's written in visual basic. no serious programmer who knows what he is doing would ever use vb to develop a larger project (or any project at all).

i played eternity online (hellfiregames.net) now. i had to google for three missing .ocx files to start it but eventually i succeeded.

when i started the game i was greeted by the welcome melody from ragnarok online. the boldness of some game designers amazes me again and again. stealing stuff from 10 year old games... well, noone cares anyway. but stealing stuff from active games that are still making money? is he collecting cease and decist letters? i hope he got a lot of money, because this hobby can become very expensive.

loading takes bloody ages. i wonder what this game does during all this loading time. when i try to leave a map it takes almost 10 seconds to load the next one (no the maps aren't that large).
the graphic engine can at least scroll, but it is buggy as hell. a window i wanted to close created a black rectangle that wouldn't go away without restarting the game and cut off sprites are running around everywhere.

the mobs wander around quite aimless. it looks like completely random movement without any kind of route finding. combat isn't that spectacular either. there isn't even an attack animation. just some text that states who hit who for how much damage.

conclusion: no good example or even a seriouse competition. just another VB hack made by someone who doesn't know what he is doing.

The graphics hurt my eyes when I start the game and they still did after I played it for half an hour. Almost everything has the same value of saturation, which makes nothing stand out and therefor everything flat. The characters are ugly, they have huge deformed heads... and on top of that the mohawk looks like a rockabilly zebra. Which isn't good at all.

and don't forget that the characters can't even move without stopping on every tile. a clear sign that the programmers don't know what they are doing.
