Voted no cause of the reasons Nard posted.
Besides giving donations to noobs has higher chance to actually get to them if you drop it in less crowded area's than towns. Like going two centimeters to any town exit and drop it.

Re: Allow drops in city areas?
Yes, because the ability to drop items in town would be nice.
No, because most likely, when drop parties occur it would increase lag in the center of town...
So, only choice left is....

Re: Allow drops in city areas?
Nard/BC: I do not think game should try to protect people from themselves at all. Its not very easy to drop items by mistake with current client UI. If someone allows to get scammed - THEIR FAULT. After few painful losses they would learn to be more careful. And there're far more ways to lose items, like selling to NPCs, adding to trades, using consumables, etc. On other hand, its very annoying if you want to exchange some items with noobs, they havent got trade permit and then it turns out you cant drop items. This also screws up drop parties in city and I do not see why these should not be allowed in cities.
FYI, more or less recent ManaPlus versions implement so called "Items protection system". You can "protect" valuable items. This prevents nearly all known troublesome actions on valuable items, including dropping, selling to NPCs, trading, using consumables (but still can equip gear though). This is per-server list, players can customize on their own, according to their views which items are valuable. Just right-click item and protect it, etc. Existence of this system makes most of BC/Nard claims worth of nothing. If someone values their expensive rare stuff, just "protect" it, and client would not allow to do potentially troublesome actions with valuable items.
So I voted yes: allow drops in cities. Bumping into silly obstacles just annoying and tends to confuse many noobs as well.

Re: Allow drops in city areas?
I just wanted to bring some possible consequences to the front. As those consequences are negative they can lead to complaints. I am satisfied with the actual situation, but am not against a change though I see very little interest in it; with the restriction above mentioned (If so, I'd ask ManaPlus to have different buttons for store and drop instead of modal). I have no definitive opinion, thus i didn't vote.t3st3r wrote:Nard/BC: I do not think game should try to protect people from themselves at all.[...]
additional elements:
-Drop/trade protection has been "recently" introduced in ManaPlus. It limits possible mistakes for somewhat skilled players. I use it because I already dropped an important item by mistake, and also saw the message "you can't drop here".
-Drop protection in Tulim Bazaar, obliges me to explain to new players what trading skill is and how to get it.

Welp.. The poll results speak for themselves: Only homicidal robots want to keep the drop restrictions
