What are the best items?

The item list in the wiki doesn't seem to quite correspond to the game exactly. What are the best items? And by best I mean largest attack/defense. As far as I can tell...

Forrest Bow (with Iron Arrows)
Short Sword
Turtleneck or Desert Shirt
Blue Jeans
Ranger Hat
Boots
Miner Gloves

Is that correct? If so, where does one get the Ranger Hat? If I understand correctly, things like goggles and some other special items were from the Halloween edition and wouldn't be obtainable any more. Is that the same for the ranger hat? And if so, does that make the standard headband the highest defense for head gear?

The whole item description of the ranger hat is fake. It doesn't give any of the bonusses and only has 4 defence.

Oh-- so would that make the standard headband the highest defense? It says +3 in it's description but when I equip/unequip it it adds/removes 10 from defense in stats.

Yeah the headband is the best. (+10)
I thought the XML was corrected a while back.. mine shows + 10 any way.

What do you mean by "the XML"? I'm referencing the "Item reference" wiki page.

He is referring to the items.xml - the file that tells your client the name, description, icon and all other information about the items in the game. You can find it in the "database" update.
