What do I use?

I want to help with the graphics and such, (and when I finish teaching my self c++ help with coding too), but I am not sure as to what programs to use to help out, I am running the latest version if Ubuntu. Thanks!

Most of our graphics artists use GIMP. Another thread that could help: Tools of trade - useful software.

All images need to be in PNG format and you can use 32bit color.
