we have rules for a reason...

Post by raindrop »

1. Do not abuse other players (it means insults, swearing etc.)
2. No bots.
3. No spamming/flooding (including trade spam).
4. No begging.
5. Speak English.

I like these rules... especially #1. It creates an environment that I can have fun in. I don't have to worry (usually) if my kids can see my screen.

I don't want to become a tattle tale. I don't want to participate in the kindergardenish that he apparently expects of me at this point. This isn't going to be the first in a long line of 'turning every little thing in.' Rather, this will be it for me. I just want to know a few things.

Is this sort of behaviour to be tolerated in The Mana World? If so, I need to hear that plainly said so I can find another game to play. If not, what exactly am I supposed to do about it without turning our admins into babysitters? I could log off when those people are around. I usually do. But that's kind of unfair. I will certainly not sit there and feed the flames. The ignore command has been one of the best additions to the game. But where do we go from here?

I look forward to any responses. I will NOT respond to flames.

I was not breaking rule #1. Rule #1 only means cussing isn't allowed if it is DIRECTED at another player. Just cussing for the sake of cussing is fine. I'd hate to shatter your fascist dreams of censorship.

EDIT- Proof of the admin wanting the game x-rated: http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... 439#p39439

But if you won't listen to me ingame, I doubt you will do it here.

EDIT2- You also call that bad when your avatar is a furry? Also, you can't shelter your children forever, eventually they will learn these words and if you do not want them to use them you need to educate them not to use them. So quit trying to be lazy and use us as your babysitters. Actually be a parent and teach those kids! It's things like this that eventually lead to bad censorship.

Also, I realize that that sounded bad, but it is the truth. I did not mean it in a derogatory way or even a rude way. You have to teach your kids though, how else will they learn?
Lazy bum.

Let's get a few definitions in here to make sure we're all on the same page.

Vulgar: lacking in cultivation, perception, or taste; morally crude, undeveloped, or unregenerate; offensive in language; lewdly or profanely indecent

Polite: of, relating to, or having the characteristics of advanced culture; showing or characterized by correct social usage;marked by an appearance of consideration, tact, deference, or courtesy

Those word are all around. My children hear them; they know them. I have no intention of "protecting" my children from words. Words don't hurt you. They don't make you bleed. All they do is communicate ideas. I will, however, teach my kids which words are meant to convey kindness, and which are meant to offend. I want them to know how to show kindness and how to avoid offending someone if they don't mean to.

You seem to enjoy offending people. You used offensive words, so it should not come as a shock when I was offended. I showed you courtesy by politely asking you to stop. You replied by calling me a fascist and by repeating the offence, this time as an insult directed at me.

So many people don't think about the words they use and why they use them. This vulgar language is rampant because fewer and fewer people are attaching this meaning to the words. However, the vast majority of people who are reminded of this will realize what they are doing, apologise, and cease. You're the only person I've encountered in TMW who didn't. Irresponsible speakers are bringing the whole language to ruin. I don't want to be a part of that, and I don't want my kids to be either. In recent years, I've met people who really didn't know that certain "four-letter" words are vulgar at all. It's incredible.

If you wish to defend your behavior, do so. Unless you set me straight on your reasoning, I can only imagine you either wish to be abusive in speech, or that you do not realize that you are being abusive. You can't fall back on the latter any more.

I am replying to your post with a civil tongue to acknowledge your wish to discuss this in a mature fashion. Thank you to continue keeping this academic.

PS: What's a furry? My avatar is a bunny rabbit. How are bunnies bad?

First of all, humanity is crude, vulgar and morally dubious. If someoe has children adult enought to use the Internet or to go outside unattended he must be incredible idiot to believe they didn't already licked the immorality that comes with heartly "F" word.

However, kr0n05931, if a person feels insulted by your behaviour and asks you to stop, you should do so, otherwise you are actually abusing that person. Especially on public chat you should use common sense. I do not wish our community to be sissy baby censored smooth mouth blah, but I also do not wish it to be full of pricks who are trying to low the level of discussion to the Mariana Trench depression (which is like 11 km deep).

And you raindrop, do not yap on people, since you have partialy kept provoking him. If a person abuses you ask them to stop, if it not helps then stop the stupid discussion and report them.

The rules will never be exercised with nazi perfection. I prefer people to get along.

Regards.

May I point out (forgive me for not minding my own business and defending people who probably don't need defending) that it is not anyone's place to tell someone how they should parent their children, and that to call someone a fascist for asking you to be polite is very extreme. I'm kinda with raindrop on this one.

You can be with who you want. This is not voting. I stated my opinion. And I do not wish to deal with everyone who is so easly offended. Come on people. I am not your mommy. And there are no rule that states "no swearing".

If he would tell someone that they are Duck Chocolate Cupcake etc. then it would be a harassment.

The last thing I would like this game and community to become is a bunch of sissies pretending to be more saint than a pope.

A person who didn't laugh when hearing this: http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=otZqFMmebx8 or this: http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=AiqT2sJJI ... re=related shall throw the stone first.
