Cactus petal hat

A player had the idea of this cactus petal hat, made out of the cactus map tile. So I started to create it:

Im unable to see its a petal. To me it looks more like a Joker hat. As for the shading, the dark part should be at the lower right side of the hat. The light comes from south west and not from below.
