I'm sorry, but good work with horrendous editing is a red flag of a ripper. (learning how to run before you can walk)

I'm sure there are tools for such a process, however, it is much easier just to use GIMP to do all your work. GIMP allows you to save different formats, convert, etc. It's a good program, fairly powerful, and it's FREE! If you only use windows, I believe it's available for it. Although, if you aren't a computernerd, as someone mentioned, you might want to burn a CD with a live-linux distro and just use that, save your work on a external device, a USB drive or something. Using windows paint, is a waste of your time, it is terrible.

I am using GIMP on windows for years. It is very stable. I see no reason to get a Linux CD just for using GIMP.
