they had the cardboard box in the first Metal Gear for the 8 bit NES

This is getting kind of off topic, but I would not count the NES incarnations into the saga, actually.

That's odd because they do tie in with the story. The NES game in zanzibar is where solid snake (the clone you play with in MGS1 in ps1) is a new recruit and has to go up against and kill naked snake (a.k.a. big boss from MGS: snake eater).Rotonen wrote:This is getting kind of off topic, but I would not count the NES incarnations into the saga, actually.

* "The boss" (allegedly) defects to the S.U. and gets killed by her disciple "Big boss"
* "Big boss" deserts and gets killed by his clone "Solid snake"

Well, the game was made for the MSX platform and later butchered for NES.
