If people want a "polite" group, I recommend starting a player group that agrees to your standards of politeness and requesting your player group put an antagonist on "ignore" as a group. People that want to be heard by anyone in the group will stop being "abusive". People can move on much easier with the game if they don't sweat the small stuff. I am willing to add player groups and the list of players and their standards to the wiki on request.
Current character is "Abolish".

I understand where your coming from Wombat, the ignore feature is great for minor stuff. But do we want a new player's first conversation to be with someone who's every word is offensive and wasn't banned because everyone one else decided to ignore him/her, or have them gaze upon a sea of spam bots

I am not talking about hypotheticals nor absolutes. I'm talking about creating awareness on how we can solve our problems ourselves. I'd prefer we have more conversations on what players can do to create the kinds of communities we want and make (threats of) GM/Dev interventions less common. I know not everyone agrees with my views on player interaction, but there are also a lot of things players can do to minimize perceived problems.

Edit Add:

To provide an example similar to what you are talking about, before "drop steal protection" was activated, my first few hours of playing resulted in me being robbed by "pickpocket". What I did was turn to "sugarcorgit" and HMC for assistance and we attempted to solve the problem together. In the end, we made suggestions to the Devs to put in place "drop steal protection" because it was becoming obvious that players, especially new players, were having a very hard time stopping players like "pickpocket".

We now have an "ignore" feature that most new players have access to and we benefit from creating awareness of this and see if we can handle it. If not, then turn to the Devs/GMs if it seems to be difficult and unfun to attempt.
Current character is "Abolish".

Maybe a Mute function should be alredy created (if not alredy). This mute should last for some time, and not dissappear even when you are not in the game.
