I've got it - haven't a clue how I'm supposed to go up a level though, advancing from fighting level one was so quick so why does magic take AGES?

you get experience by actually using magic. and when you start out, a lot of your spells fail/backfire and it wastes all of your items needed for said spells. it's not for me, but lots of people love it. it's cool that there are different directions to go for progression in the game. it works for everybody
