Stuck at fence to forest

Post by d46bear »

I am using the Windows client, 0.0.29.1. Created a new character, now about level 14. I can get out to the desert and across the beach. When I try to enter the forest, I am stuck; can't get through the gate.
Is there something I need (to do) before entering the forest? I would go kill pinkies if I could get there. :(

Sounds like you got out of sync with the server. Restart your client and try again.

I have done that. No joy. I can walk over to the forest fence, stand between the gateposts, move from side to side. Can not move through the gate.

But I bet that, when you restart the client, your character is in a different position (probably way back on the "beach" map), not between the gate posts. Well, that means that, on the server, your character is in a different position than the one your client "thinks" you are in. That' what "out of sync with the server" means. Sometimes it's because of the server's connection, sometimes it's because of your internet connection. All you can really do is restart the client. Sometimes you can resync your client in game by attacking some nearby monsters. If the attack is a success (that is if you get a hit or a miss and not just your character hitting the air with no result) your on-screen position is probably correct or it gets corrected. You can also get better results if you avoid very quick long walks. Take baby steps, attack something nearby, or just sit (sitting also requires server response so it might help the resync).

Wow! That explains a buncha sh-- stuff! :D
Have wondered on quite a few occasions why I just swing in the air with no hits OR misses. What really puzzled me was being in a different location when I'd restart, and why I'd be stuck when I get back there again.
