How many raw logs are you supposed to give that guy? i had 68 and i gave him all of them but that #¤% just breaks them all and say they're not good enough

I think I've turned in close to a 100 of them. All with no joy. Using version 0.29.1 if it matters. This quest is rather frustrating. Not to mention the monotony of killing all those tree monsters.

I have thought upon this earlier too but since luck was mentioned so... Does luck attributes have influence in any other things than critical hits in fights. Does it help in such situations as this? Perhaps this is a spoiler question?

No. The chance is the same for all logs from all people.

It's bad enough Alan wanting all my logs, now I've got Auldesbel wanting me to collect them as well. I tell ya, I'm just havin' absolutely no luck with these logs! :p
