I had no problem to connect to it just now.

Note that it is a Manaserv server. You need a client compiled for Manaserv to be able to play on it. Seeseekey is offering a compiled client for windows on http://invertika.org/pages/downloads.php

Yes, but then you have to download the sourcecode with GIT and compile it yourself. When you are not experienced with compiling software on Linux you might find it easier to just run the windows client in WINE.

I think 4144's client works, though unless you're using debian or ubuntu you'll still have to compile it from source.

(See the "TMW Client Patch" topic in General Development)

As far as I know all compiled builds of the client with 4144's patch which fly around are compiled for the eAthena target*.

Compiling the client for the Manaserv target* after applying the patch will most likely work, but most of its features make no sense or should not even work on ManaServ.

*) Background info: When you compile the Mana client you have to choose if you want to compile it for eAthena or for ManaServ. In both cases the program parts specific for the other server are not included in the compiled binary. We are slowly working towards a hybrid client which includes the program parts for both servers at the same time.

Why does 4144's client also offer connecting to invertika then?

Are you using 4144's binary, or did you compile it yourself? If the latter, then you likely built a manaserv binary.

also... I don't think invertika runs the latest manaserv, so pulling a client from manasource might not work. You might have to get the client from invertika's repos.
