Community Action.

Post by CapitanAwesome »

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls of all ages.

I would like to point out something to you all. And I would greatly appreciate if you could all help me with this.

As you may have noticed there is a gap between the GM's of our fine game and the playing community.

I ask that from now on, if a player is bothering you, first try the ignore feature of your game client.
If enough people ignore the habitual offenders, their reason for being annoying will disappear and so too will the annoying people.

In regards to botting, please use the @wgm command to send a messge to an online GM (if available) and we will investigate, but remember, we have a process to follow and it doesn't involve running in ban-hammers blazing!

To correctly use the @wgm feature type into your chat bar:
'@wgm <playername> is botting at <location>' and someone will look into it.

As everyone should be aware (you cant log in with a new character without seeing the rules!) the games official server is an ENGLISH SPEAKING SERVER!

I am more then happy for you to chat with your friends in a quiet part of a map somewhere in your own language, better yet, use the whisper feature! But in towns and high traffic areas, I ask that you respect the rules and stick to ENGLISH (broken/poor english is fine, we appreciate you making the effort!)

ABUSE WILL NO LONGER BE TOLLERATED! Abuse another player in the presence of a GM and expect to be going on a little holiday, courtesy of the BAN-HAMMER.

And folks, remember, swearing is not needed here, it might be ok amongst your friends, but some people find such foul language offensive, so please keep your language G rated when possible, and if you do drop the F-Bomb, we won't mind... Just don't make a habit of it.

Ladies and Gentlemen Boy and Girls, for my closing statement I would like you all to remember.

GM's are people too, and although we have lives outside of The Mana World, we do the best with the time and the tools we are given to keep the community a fun and hassle free one, so please be patient with us and try not to be upset if you don't like something we do.. there is usually a very good reason for it.

Thank you for your time for the community action project.

We do a know that the current gms are soo busy.

CaptainAwesome-16 times online in 31 days.

Katze- 1 time online in 31 days.

Freeorp- 8 times online in 31 days.

Crush-15+ time online in 31 days.

Kage- 20+ times online in 31 days

Plantya- made less then 5 appearances

Could go on. But is is nice that the gms do have enough time to ask us to use a feature that is never manned.

When the gms are online, and not just spawning stuff. They are just logged on but away from the keyboard.

But it is nice that you have enough free time to tell us, to use the ignore feature.

Pretty much what the every gm has done to the community.

IF YOU IGNORE THEM, THEY WILL GO AWAY.

Here is a little hint, just a little one.

Find a player that is online most of the time. Cares about the game and not about the players. Make her/him gm. The worst thing that can happen is that you fire another gm. But make sure you do not just find a person that just sit there and talks, chats, or makes friends. Because when it comes down to it. GMs are about making the game work, helping out people, and enforcing rules with unbending force.

So far, I have not seen one gm that would remotely be called that. Most just sit in the middle of town, chatting, boasting, and complaining about how the community does not love them.

How in the world is a gm making the gm work, helping out people, and enforcing rules when they always sitting in the middle of town?

I will leave you with a quote (of course)
We live in an age when pizza gets to your home before the police. (The question, of course, is whether this is good or bad.)

And so it goes, and so it goes.

IMO this should have been the first topic ;)

also theauroraproject your not a gm or admin or dev or contributer so what are you worried about? the community? Just keep to the rules and don't worry about it ;)
theauroraproject wrote: I tried to show the difference between the people that make the rules and the people that just work here. But you also understand that a dev has alot more power then the avg player.
want to become a Dev? well your in the right place but your topics are not :/

You have the attitude for someone who wants an advantage over the game.
crush wrote: A "Slave" is someone who works free of charge for the benefit of someone else.
Who fits this description more - the players or the developers?

theauroraproject wrote: Actually, both. The devs are working hard, no question, but they also get to make and set the rules. They get to change the rules. A slave can not change his rules.

But crush, let me ask you this, where would this project be with out players. If no one logged on. If no one played. What then? Would it be worth it for you. To make a game on you own, in your room, by yourself. The players are testers. They test the game.
well I'm glad you realize the game is in beta enjoy testing or don't when you leave plz rate and comment ;)

We are in this together.
Are you a preacher? cause I can't get that echo out of my head. your ranting is most likely not helping.
theauroraproject wrote:We need a government in which it is the community that decides the rules.

A congress of 10 maybe. Elected by the people of the mana world. Lvl 50 or over with 6 months of playing time.
#1 no because if that would happen the community would go nuts and chose someone to follow and than that person would chose rules for you from there and that person will slowly develop a since and begin to run it more efficiently like we are today.

#2 no I'm lvl 65 in game I have been contributing to this project for one year some people have played for 4 or more years. I'm not sure of the exact number. I disagree with this logic an player only knows the places he favours a developer knows them all and builds on to them. If I'm catching your point correctly you mean there advanced because they have more game play. This is wrong because the players/testers are only for the enjoyment of the game not to worry about development issues. I bet your favourite game has glitches but a doubt you would complain about them because unless its to your advantage over the game a normal player wouldn't. With that note you can hardly call yourself a tester unless you discovered something and have reported it as a disadvantage or an unfair one.

I am NOT a game master!

I have access to some commands on the server and thus appear as a game master in the online list. But I will and may only use them for testing game features.

I am not allowed to use my rights on the server to interact with the game or the community in any way. Nor do I want to.

It seems like someone spreads the rumor that I am a game master. I received a few PMs lately requesting me to do typical GM work like negotiating bans. I may not and will not do this! Next time you witness someone using my name and the word "GM" in the same sentence, please call him or her an idiot from me. Thank you!
  • former Manasource Programmer
  • former TMW Pixel artist
  • NOT a game master

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

Cappy...most of that is common sense that should be observed...

So botting has a process that needs to go through but what some player considers abuse in front of a GM will get one banned? Something doesnt seem right here.

GMs should not deal with community problems at all, just the bots. The community needs to grow up as a whole and stop being so damned petty. So what if someone insulted you, out in the real world what are you going to do? Run to the police? No...you ignore them. We have that function for a reason, NOT the GMs. Cursing, insults, 'abuse' can all be fixed with the ignore function and its easy to use. Someone even invented a Nuke patch so you can remove them from your screen even.

Come on people...most of us are thinking human beings...use your brain :?

Wishing things were different...hoping for better now.
