how to free obsessed tmw players?

Online RPGs can be a great hobby, but the risk to get addicted to them is very high. When you are playing an MMORPG you should always ask yourself if you are having fun right now. The moment where the game feels like work you should start asking yourself what you are doing and if it wouldn't be more fun and productive to do something else right now. And when you even start to neglect your education or your "real" work for playing an online game you should think about your priorities.

I know what I am talking about. I played over a dozend of different MMOs. Some for months, some only for a few days. It can be great fun to download some new game, lock yourself in for a weekend and completely dive into the virtual world. The first days in a new game are usually the most exciting ones. But the moment where the game stops being fun and starts to get repetitive without showing a sign of getting more interesting in the near future I stop playing regardless of how much there is still to archieve.

but a problem about this thing is, that this:
When you are playing an MMORPG you should always ask yourself if you are having fun right now.
.. is not always possible. because when you get lost to the virtual world you somewhat forget other things, forget alternatives, forget other interests, and so on. the longer the more..

Sorry again lamb..

But I don't think there is a way to free TMW/MMORPG addicted players. Usually if the person likes the certain game and sticks with it they WILL fall into this phase..

And eventually snap out of it and move on, quit, or play less, find a new game, do it all over again till your an adult and you just don't have the time to do this..

So I don't think it's really a big deal unless you happen to turn out into those few who have been on the news for commiting suicide for a game.. or those few WOW players who would do anything to gain stuff on the game.

that is, because many ppl think like you and no ones helping others.

o yeah, its just a phase. and after that? the next will come..

o cmon, many adults have time to do this or they find other obsessions. whats the point being adult here?

sure. suicide is so uncommon because its not so often reported in the media.
all hail the media!

Lol so it's my duty to help others STOP playing a game they want to play? I play TMW cause I like it and I think it's fun, NOT to be some kind of internet police and try to free obsessed players.

Yes it's just a phase. Like I said there are only a few who have it really bad and can't break away from the addiction. Maybe MMORPG's are some people's cigarettes.. drug etc.. but again, I didn't sign up for TMW to become a counsler.

Yeah, so again, it's my fault for not helping adults with their problems? Maybe once I graduate from college and choose to become a counsler of some sort then it would be my problem.

One last time. If families and friends of someone can't stop them, neither can you. You signed up for TMW because you love to play it, not to be some hero. :D

You can not help addicted people unless they 1. realize their addiction on their own and 2. want to get rid of it because it is their own personal decision.

You can not help an MMO addict with these two steps, and when they did these steps it is not hard to complete it on their own because there are no physical withdrawl symptoms like you have with drugs.

Thank you Crush.

And I mean if someone came out on the forum and said they needed help, i'm pretty sure alot of us here would be glad to help them try to break the addiction.

But none of us here are trying to go look and find people who need help. They can ask for it.

nono, i dont want to play police nor hero, that forces others to their good. i just try to be a friend for some. and yes: friends can help, also to get aware of problems or how to solve it.
and perhaps its good to know for some that there are some ppl who you could talk to, even if you dont know them yet. just knowing, youre not alone, your situation doesnt have to stay like it is. ppl can just ask for help if there would be any chance for them being heared.

so in the end, perhaps, you cant help very much, that might be true. but at least you could give impulses, like lamb did with this thread. thx!

Hmm...interesting question coming from one of the more odd players...thank you for bring it up 'Mrs Lamb'

Am I addicted? No. I am probably someone who you would probably ask this to as you do see my character up on the screen all the time. Yes I leave the character up most of the day but I am hardly sitting in front of the computer watching things like a hawk. I just find it easier to leave a client open.

I enjoy the game, it's a good place to sit and get the chance to role play a little. Yes there are people who take things too seriously and are 'addicted'...and I think we know who they are. I've come close to shutting the game off and just leaving because others have made the game not enjoyable. Have had way too many highs and lows here...and have gotten upset and hurt over pixels and people I will never meet. I've just grown to not care...and have fun with everything. Why play a game for anything else?

There is no help for those who are addicted unless they want it. Some 'live' in the world...and not reality. Until they want help, there will be none for them.

And most addicted players don't realize it themselves and if you try to tell them, well.. lets just say you'll get a not so nice remark back.

Most people who are addicted are never going to ask for help.

No they won't ask for help so in a sense they are lost.

Nothing we can do. They waste their time not yours. Let them be...if they want to live the fake world...it's their choice. Reality is a great thing!

Yep. But I also get what Lamb is trying to say.. but there is no way you can help if they won't help themselves.

I understand how Lamb is concerned for players. But what good is concern for those who don't care?

You can't force those to stop and rethink what they are doing with their lives. It's theirs to live, whether it be in the fake world or the real one.

I guess you can be grateful there are players who are concerned...
