The MMORPG Ryzom just went open source. They released both the sourcecode and the art under the GNU AGPL.

I tried the game several years ago where it still sucked pretty much, but now I am thinking about taking a look at it again.
Ryzom goes Open Source
Ryzom goes Open Source
- former Manasource Programmer
- former TMW Pixel artist
- NOT a game master
Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.
You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
Re: Ryzom goes Open Source
Someone should port it to an LTS Linux distribution if a client isn't already available.
Now that it is open source, they can reap the benefits of an expanded user base.
Since people will play on the server which has the most players and the most active economy, forking wouldn't hurt the original server unless it had too few people to begin with. This also opens up the possibility of the community making content for it (and maybe earning money from good contributions, which would keep people playing the original server.) I think this decision will turn out good for Ryzom.
