Windows XP Home: Game freezes after character select

I downloaded this game and played for the first time and it worked fine. When I started it up this morning and tried to connect the game keeps freezing on me. What's the problem? I am running the most recent version 0.0.18.1. Please help me out. Thanks.

It seems that the server is really slow atm, so its not your fault.

crashes? im on win xp home, and after character select the game freezes for about 15 secs, during which i alt-tab to FF and browse the forums. game comes back momentarily, all is bearable
