Because we don't have a female playerset yet. I think that's the main reason.

you can choose to play a female character when you create your account. but at the moment you still look like a man because nobody made the female graphics yet. but making one is one of the more urgent things on the list.

when you want to make a female version you should use the most recent version of the tileset (you can find it in the svn repository) and you should post about your progress in either a new thread with a distinctive subject in the graphic dev forum or the old playerset thread.
