Arrrrrrghhhhhhh!!!!! Monster oil & server crap

Post by DariusBane »

Getting tired of trying to make monster oil, then have server drop me while half through. I lose pearls, herbs, snake skins. While it may not seem much to some it becomes annoying having to A) gather this stuff up again, B) rely on my wife to have stuff on hand, C) go buy stuff, D) try to haggle/trade to get it and then the bloody servers fouls or as is suggested the ISP drops off. This is plain out bull malarkey.

While I know that yes, it is likely the isp dropping at times, it isn't likely all the time. I'm told I'm the only one this effects, that Big Crunch can stay connected hours at a time. Well that's fine for all you lucky stiffs. Doesn't help matters any here. I speak up and suggest trouble with server, ask for it to be looked at or fixed. I get told it is non-issue. Apparently, with others also noting the server crashes / drops, it really must be some sort of serious non-issue. Again more malarkey.

"It's no issue. Shut up!"

But yet it continues. I have life beyond the game. I enjoy the game when able to play. It is relaxing, fun. But when it goes wonky on me so much and no one seems willing to address possibly helping, then life outside wins. And here I thought this game was an actual community. A shame because I could have seen myself lending coding, content help once able. Now, I really have to reconsider that. In fact I have to reconsider why bother playing.

The continual grinding for crappy rewards doesn't beckon good tidings. It's a game, a fantasy, we come to escape the drudgery of life. Give us better rewards for our in game toils. Do not make quests require lots of wildly strung out pieces of junk that serve no other purpose aside from selling to complete other quests. Give us community. 'Til then ...

I'd really be interested to know who these mysterious "others" are. I quite often leave my character logged in for the better part of 8 hours (with no disconnections or crashes) while I am working and my logs show no conversation regarding crashes or drops outside the ones that have been documented in the forums. You are the only one who is consistently complaining about this. If it cannot be reproduced or confirmed by third parties, the ONLY conclusion is a problem on your end, either with your ISP or with your computer. This is beyond the capability of devs, admins, gms, or anybody else to address.

This is actually a very active and supportive community if you are willing to work WITH everybody instead of trying to fight against them. Making accusations of server failure without concrete evidence and demanding that it be fixed will do nothing to gain you support.

Recent focus on quests are attempting to move away from the tedious grind and gather formula, but keep in mind that this requires a lot of work and will not happen overnight. The game is constantly evolving, and the rate it does so is actually very impressive considering the amount of time required for coding, testing, bugfixing and tweaking that is done by volunteers who also have lives outside TMW.

TL;DR: I'm tired of your whining and accusations. Shut up and move on, or do something constructive to make it better.
The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

Quiet candy boy.

It could be a client issue, what client version are you using?

Using ManaPlus client 1.1.8.21 on Debian Squeeze, and keep updated via Synaptic and apt-get. The software ought to be fairly up to date and stable. Starting think it is probably a problem with the service provider / home network. And no, not the network admin merely root of this computer.

The network's admin is also a heavy gamer and runs a server off of rack space rented out of MN, we're in WV. So, service provider issue is probably the cause. Apologies for getting frustrated, being human. Will not happen again. Will don the robot facade. Hopefully that will not drain the fun of the game from anyone.

By the by, I am trying to offer some bit of content suggestion. You can read it here if you've not already. http://forums.themanaworld.org/viewtopi ... =4&t=13919
Admittedly, it is not much and only a first effort. But it is something.

Actually I have had similair issues and can verify that it is indeed an issue with ISPs. This has been confirmed with my ISPs service dept. Time Warner and ATT(the providers in my area) both are in process of doing upgrades and heavy maintenance.
