Woodland Village scripting

Post by Crush » 31 Aug 2006, 00:57

Is there anyone here who is interested in helping with writing quests and npc texts for the woodland village? The wiki article with the npc texts and quest descriptions that i already wrote can be found on the discussion page of the "Xartune" article on the wiki.

When you are not interested in helping with the development you should not read this article, because it will ruin your game experience when you know everything before it is released.

But everyone who is seriously interested in helping with writing is invited to add to this article (please only when you can write comprehensible english).

I'm interested. Althought I have never peek at any script, are they hard to write?

my idea is to write the quest description and dialogs in plain text first. you can see some examples on the wiki page mentioned above. then we discuss about them on irc and when we decide to put them into the game we create the scripts for them.

Here a guide about scripting dialogs in eAthena: http://www.eathena.deltaanime.net/wiki/ ... 28Basic%29

I thought you guys would use ruby for the npcs?
Anyway I can do the script languange of eathena easily (Ro ftw ;) ), I just wanna ask; Do Im supposed to throw in some ideas for npcs? Im more that type who just done orders.

And is there already global sprite chart where we can see the NPC Sprite ID's? And apart from using mes, delitem, additem... What functions are NOT supported by tmw?

Dear Lady Marie, eAthena is for "pseudo content" (as in our current content built upon eAthena for testing purposes). ;)
This message used to be meaningful.

I know it, someone already told me and that they are doing a new one from the scratch. Of course you build it upon eAthena but I need to know what is working and what not. :P I cant just give the NPC a chatroom if its not supported by the tmw client for example, I hope you may understand it.

That's good. You could help later. But for the moment we just want to conceptualize the npc's. The real scripting will be done in a few days. But when you would be still around to help with that when it is needed it would be nice.
And is there already global sprite chart where we can see the NPC Sprite ID's?
The NPC sprite IDs are 99 + Index on the npcs.png in your tmw/data/graphics/sprites folder.

The hermit in the bat cave, for example, is number 3 in the 2nd row. So you count 14 on the first row + 3 on the 2nd row = 17. 17 + 99 = 116. His sprite ID is 116. Don't forget to count empty spaces, too.
And apart from using mes, delitem, additem... What functions are NOT supported by tmw?
i don't know about any server sided restrictions. But the client is quite restricted. But i'm no specialist on that area.

I'd say those are all the supported ones, some other could be as well depending on the case, this should be possibly be discussed on IRC

Pajarico, please delete that and post it on the wiki. We don't want to spoil any future content for players who aren't involved in the creation of the game.

Pajarico didn't do much but complaining and contributed nothing to really improve anything.

Anyone else who wants to help?

We are currently redesigning the complete background story. But this is quite irrelevant for the woodland village because it doesn't looks like it will be an important key location in the new background story.

We are talking about short term eAthena content here.
