I really have not heard anything about the server development. Any news on how it is coming along? What do you have already? What are some things being worked on? Areas of complication? Estimated time of the new server? Ways we can get involved?
I'm just curious as to what is happening, although you guys a pretty busy, so I certainly won't be offended if you skip past this post.

Some of your questions may be answered by reading
the tmwserv roadmap. The rest I cannot answer.

Indeed the server part of the roadmap should give a general impression about our progress.
Recently, mostly because of the help of Guillaume Melquiond, a lot of progress has been made with the server and the 0.1.0 client branch that uses it. So far, it is possible to log on, create a character and start walking around. You can also see others walking around (including monsters) and chat with them.
Things that should be worked on from here include:
* Ability to attack other beings
* Inventory handling, and when this is done:
** Dropping and picking up items
** Equipment handling
** Shops
** Trading between players
* Private chat, and when this is done:
** Buddy list
* Adding support for chat channels aside talking to people around you
* Making is possible to script NPCs
There is quite a lot that could be done in parallel actually, so anyone skilled with C++ should consider joining in.

i have taken a look at the server roadmap, but i take that with a grain of salt due to the fact that life happens, and i was simply wondering what had actually been accomplished. thanks for the prompt responses, and it sounds like things are coming along nicely.

Indeed. In the last two months the server developers got more stuff done than in the last two years. I hope that they will keep up the good work and not fall into stagnation again.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.

I guess the bottleneck was the lack of a proper client to test things with, now that 0.1.0 branch is on its way, everything should be easier, although server development it's harder at the point that I'm barely useful. Let me assure you that it won't stop me anyway
