The ultimate fansite making guide.

Post by Amethyst »

This guide is how to make a FREE fansite.

As many of you know, it can be hard sometimes to read a website not in your native language. So instead of trying super hard to read, help your friends who don't understand english and make a fansite in your language.

Now every fansite needs a host.

I recommend: http://www.freewebs.com

Once there pick easy site builder, unless you are good at HTML and CSS coding. What? I didn't think so.

Now every fansite also needs a forum. Forums are great places to exchange help and other things.

You can choose eaither:

http://www.invisionfree.com

or

http://www.spreebb.com

Spreebb has more features than invisionfree, but I recommend invisionfree because as far as I know no one has EVER used a mysql injection to get a password out of it. Invisionfree is unhackable. NOw I didn't say uncrackable.

After you do that there should be some tuts on the host sites. If you have a problem with invisionfree choose support on the website, it should take you to a support forum.

Enjoy all! Post your new fansites below if Elven and Bjorn let you!

Invisionfree was hacked numerous times, they just don't admit it, bans everyone who finds a vulnerability and spread all over their support forums how unhackable they are.

And when proper hosting costs 20 euros (plus domain) per year, why bother with crappy free services?
This message used to be meaningful.

A lot of people don't own a credit card. Plus that's like $40, a good host would usually run about $60.

They may give money to a friend who owns a credit card, and we are not talking about super good host but something better than free crappy services that are made only to collect spam addresses db.

I pay for my .org domain with webspace via direct debit althoug i could also pay by wire transfer.

Webhosting became incredable cheap in the last years. You can get a domain with 100MB webspace, PHP and mysql for under a euro a month. Although I would always try to get a hosting that got either unlimited traffic or one that takes the page down when you exceed your traffic quota. There are some hosts that charge you enormous fees when your page happens to be linked by some famous news site or blog and causes much more traffic than usual.
  • former Manasource Programmer
  • former TMW Pixel artist
  • NOT a game master

Please do not send me any inquiries regarding player accounts on TMW.

You might have heard a certain rumor about me. This rumor is completely false. You might also have heard the other rumor about me. This rumor is 100% accurate.
