TMW story line and personal pages (inspired by kyokai)

Post by Magick » 18 Apr 2005, 07:20

TMW,like kyokai said, should have a personal story line thing. I have some ideas how to make the player more interested in the game.

The first thing is that a person should be able to add a title to there character. There should be a button, say ctrl+f1 wich makes the name above the characters head switch from character name to nickname. Also there should be a story blog and a personal refernce (forgot the name for it :P)

The refernce will be the characters own goals and things he wants to do. He can also introduce his character.

Having this willgive some information on the personality of the person, and if two people share the same goals they can create a party.

This blog can appear on the characters status and also in its own spot. The spot away from the status can hold all the information and things when the status will only show the introduction and nickname. Here is a example:

Status- Lvl, hp,mp whatever whatever
character name-
Nickname- introduction

Blob, reference, whatever its called- Character name
Nickname-
Introduction
Goals
achievments
??????
????

Just an opinion..tell me what you think.

I Think....
It should be auto generated sometime during the game (maybe after a certain in-game event involving the player), and change slightly over time as the player continues to grow. While the original goal will still remain, there could be some subtle changes to make the gameplay more dynamic.

Also, each player can have generated background information which effects the goals and how they can be achieved.

Thats my thoughts 8)

My only worries are that the player will not have enough control over his own storyline. If everything is autogenerated, you run the risk of the game making a character and not the player... I think it will be a real challenge to find a good balance on this issue, but I'm confident we can find something that wrks without being overbearing.
The Mana World System Coordinator.

So what does the systems coordinator actually do? My job is to take your ideas for TMW and build them into working aspects of gameplay that can be implemented by the artists and programmers. If there's anything you think we can do better or differently, let me know.

Yeah, sure, the player needs to be able to control these things. But what i suggest is that it is auto generated at the start, except it changes over time depending on what the player does. For example, a player might become evil and kill everything it sees, including other players. This could change that players objectives and goals to something more evil. etc.

I think that would be quite balanced, by not really giving any work to the player, but depending on what they do in-game their goals and objectives may change.

I like the idea that you "change" when you do certain stuff. Kill alot of thieves to be granted some kind of title of "Bandit Hunter".

An implementation of "Star Wars" kinda light side/dark side style would be nice too. And if you are more dark sided you will be able to talk to the "bad" people in TMW and do some bad quests.

This kind of automatic personality making would be nice. (In my opnion ofcourse!)

Personal opinion: no good or bad, just things trying to survive.

Well, some sort of reputation system would be quite nice, and depending on your reputation you can do various things & NPC's interact with you in various ways. For example, if you are a character with a bad reputation, the shop keeper may charge you more because he doesn't like you, etc.

This doesn't have to be implemented in the near future -- but it would be good to be implemented :)

well, i had this thought while making a RO server, didnt last very long because i got bored of RO but this is the advertisment i had, the RO server itself is dead, but it shows a few features that may be used...
Welcome to StorybookRO
Let me introduce you to the server and its many new features!

GMs:
Bear(99)GM
none others, this will be a strict community based server!

Since this is using SVN server, Monster drop zeny and Level up when they kill a player, if they get enough exp.

This server is up to date

StorybookRO is a server for people to make up their own Stories or to Play one out using Role Play!.

After Role Play, dont be shy to wright it out and post it on the forums!

We have 2 systems we use.

Conquest- This servers specialty is Conquest. In a story of 7 chapters, Conquest makes the whole hting go round. In special area called Plains, monsters reside, by killing monsterw within the Plains, they give Conquest points. You can trade in Conquest Points for Fun items and equipment.

Fame- Fame is exactly 1/2 of your conquest points. These points are used when a NPC talks to you, if you talk to NPCs and say bad things, it goes down. When you have alot of Fame, you will be opened to more quests and some new Maps to play on.

Chapter:
1-Kings Call
2-Threat amoung us
3-Takeover Castle
4-Distortion of the Forest Plains
5-Distortion of the Desert Plains
6-The Gate to the High Plains
7-Plains of the Final Battle

Current-Chapter 1
When players join this server, they start off wherever the story is at, if you were to join now, you would join in at Chapter 1

Chapter 1 is basically just the registrations to take place in the servers Role Play.

Registrations for the server is using the _M _F method
When registering, you put in your account name the _M for male and _F for female account

for example, im using bob as my account.
so it would be
Bob_M
then password, you only need to do this once, after that, you can just logon without the _M/_F.

The servers IP is bear8.no-ip.org
(Sclientinfo provided shortly)

You dont need anything new to play, no patches no nothing!
Just good fun with everything provided!

BTW this is a Sakray server for Advanced RO
