[WIP] The Trozz

Post by kr0n05931 » 19 Oct 2008, 02:22

In honor of Axl I have taken one of his many concepts and named it the trozz.

(quick bad example)
for the attack animation we don't actually need to see the spit fly all the way to the player just animate it for a moment it for a moment in the attack frames.(like the muzzle flash of a gun)like how the hydras from starcraft attacks
If done correctly players should understand it’s a projectile moving to fast for them to see

Please do sketch the full animated sprite sheet before pixellating.

I my opinion, 45 degree angles in horns looks pretty unrealistic and cheap. Yes, I know that it is easy to make but I'd prefer a little different angle.

The animation itself looks the attack wouldn't hurt you. If the Trozz's body moves backwards in 3 frames and then rapidly move forward in 2 frames spitting all over the place, the attack looks much more powerful. And 1 frame where Trozz moves back to the normal pose would make the animation excellent.

But...

...it is still up to the game standards... (which is low and should be improved...)
You can find me lurking in the Graphics Development forum...
Haha, you thought it was a link, didn't you! :–)

The 0.1 client already supports monster attacks with particle effects. A splash of acid/poison/vomit/whatever it is spitting could be done with the particle engine.

Would it be possible to have it fly towards the player instead of forwards (unless that is the direction of the player).

Currently the acceleration target of particle effects is always the effect itself but particle effects with external acceleration targets are planned since the beginning of the particle engine and thus incorporated in its architecture (this can be used for effects with "homing missle"-like behavior). It is basically a question of coding some infrastructure to make use of this.

Particle effects can also be rotated on 0.1 (only affects the vectors of the created particles, not the spawn area). Currently it is only used for 90° angles but it could be used for rotating effects by any amount.

Don't be afraid to pixel motion blur into the attacks.

Also, start with the moving cycle, please. Now you've ended up with a completely static bottom on attacking.

I can't make the bottom any more moving than this. If I do, it will appear to not be coming out of the ground anymore.

A little background on this animation: The monster has a few magical properties that allow it to widen the ground and open it.
