Sometimes it doesn't work correctly and sometimes there really is 0 people playing.
Current character is "Abolish".
Re: TMW Aethrya or w/e?
So the game is running dry?

Re: TMW Aethrya or w/e?
I don't know if it was ever "wet". The people that work on it have some interesting ideas, but the player community is pretty dead. I think the game just feeds off of people wanting something like TMW (thus already exposed to this game), but because the game is not superior to this one, it doesn't cause as much of a cross over.
It has 3-15 characters on it during busy times. If I were doing Aethyra, I'd work on the combat system to make pvp more viable (same with this game, though this game does a better job). Instead they created a prison and large empty maps that have little to no larger purpose than to explore. Once that gets boring, fighting "lava slimes", "snakes", "fire mushrooms", "royal mushrooms", "blood mushrooms" and "mountain snakes" over and over and over. Without a player market, it is much more tedious and without reward beyond the intial reward won.
The bonuses it has over TMW is they already have two different shields with graphics in place. It also has several forms of armor and weapons but the most powerful of them are one time quest items.
I think the "most powerful" items in TMW win because they are built by acquiring other items over a period of time. People can turn to the player market if they don't have the time to build them and/or if they have too much time, they can build items to sell to others. With the most powerful items being one-time quests in Aethyra, there isn't much extension of fun that can be drawn out for players.
On that same note...everyone...STOP GIVING AWAY EVERYTHING! Either sell it to an NPC if you have too many or sell it to players. I've had to slash my prices because everyone fails to see the play-value a player driven market gives to this game while it remains in a period of necessary growth.
When magic becomes official, there will be nearly or over double the number of quests that exist now, with a lot of character building and character options to accompany it. This will make the player market more viable, but for now, I would hope people can see why giving away stuff is really just moving people through the game too fast and not making the connections to build a larger player community together.
We can always camp the skull room, get level 99 and then move on to other games, but I think we need a more social solution and the player market and player organized events are my suggestions for how we can do it.

Re: TMW Aethrya or w/e?
That was to much to read Wombat, all I read was "STOP GIVING AWAY EVERYTHING!" And the slime/mushroom part. Yeah, if you want to give things away, at least sell them to an NPC. :c
Re: TMW Aethrya or w/e?
synopsis: Aethyra never was wet. TMW good. Could be better if we supported player market and player organized events.
Current character is "Abolish".

Sometimes http://server.themanaworld.org/online.txt returns zero users online. But, then I refresh and, kaboom!, 71 users online.
I imagine both tmw and aethyra are equally simultaneously popular and unpopular?

Re: TMW Aethrya or w/e?
No they range from about 0-10 players depending on time of daybigglesworth wrote:Sometimes http://server.themanaworld.org/online.txt returns zero users online. But, then I refresh and, kaboom!, 71 users online.

TMW is about 45-105 depending on time of day
I'd like to see it get up to 200-350 depending on time of day
So when I'm done with WOA (sometime between one year and never) they can all jump ship JK

This happens when we have two character servers running, which was the case for a while. Then they both write out the online list periodically, and one of them has 0 players online.bigglesworth wrote:Sometimes http://server.themanaworld.org/online.txt returns zero users online.
