DEVS: Question about Stats

Post by Amun »

Awhile back Corum aka Hawkmoon told some of us that any stats over 80 for dex, agility, strength, has a negative effect which begins to backfire making you worse and only goes up in numbers. This is apparently based on some file he found on the server. Is there any truth behind this?

Amun,

Not that I'm aware of. I often experiment locally with stats of 99, and they don't seem to get any worse, as far as I can tell.

A different question is whether the 100 stat points you need for the last couple of points in a given stat are worth expending. This part I have no answer to.

I am curious as to what happens, effect wise, when you push a stat over 100. IE, cat ears + 99 Agility or a Clover + 99 Luck.

Although 99 is the maximum base value of each stat the server knows that your effective stats can go far over hundred due to class boni, buffs and equipment (RO features we are not using in TMW) and all parts of the game are able to work with such numbers.

From what I understood, at some point, there is no bonus after a certain amount of points that you put in a stat. Dunno if that's what the player was talking about and I don't experienced that theory myself. But if that's the case, I guess that players would like to know :D

Hi,

well, from looking at the code I don't recall any explicit barriers, but the server is complicated and I haven't really tested that in detail (feel free to test locally and let us all know, though! :-)

Here is what I (think) I know:

INT definitely keeps improving M.Attack and MP if you keep pushing it, but I'm not sure about M.Def. AGI definitely keeps speeding up attacks; I'm not completely sure about dodge. VIT definitely keeps increasing HP; I'm not sure about defence. DEX definitely keeps increasing to-hit and archery damage, but the to-hit bonus may be irrelevant for high-level players when fighting low and medium level monsters. STR definitely keeps increasing your carrying weight, but I'm not completely sure about melee damage. And LUK I'm not at all certain about.

Unless you eA devs hacked it away all stats should still do something on high values. Some stats like STR even have more effect the higher they go.

A very detailed description of the Ragnarok Online game mechanics, which are the base of our server, can be found on www.rodatazone.simgaming.net
