Magic Mouth
Hi,
here is a first attempt at a `magic mouth'; the visual representation of a spell that speaks some simple phrases:
Honestly, it looks wrong, but I cannot quite figure out what the issue is. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: `Ignore' interface
Don, this looks very nice in practice. I added a variant that has `...' written within the bubble to the text, and I expect that I will use that as a default (since that's the second most popular poll option ;-) I still think that the outline for the ignore bubble could be stronger, though. If it's ...

Re: `Ignore' interface
peavey,
perhaps you are right; I should try this with a dropdown widget first. That will unclutter the UI without eliminating the options.

Re: `Ignore' interface
Don, this looks excellent; thank you very much! :-) But the contrast seems a little low against white background; if it's not too much trouble, could you add an outline, please? (The outline needn't be completely opaque, since the icon should not stand out _too_ much.) Seeing how the poll is going, ...

Re: `Ignore' interface
Hi, Don, the idea of a floating image seems to make more sense than the `...' text we have now, as that would avoid confusion. EJlol, I don't think that the server provides all the information needed to show a player when that player picks something up. For attacking, that would be possible, though....

Re: `Ignore' interface
EJlol,
completely ignoring a player's sprite would be a very extreme form of ignoring, but it might backfire (-> dropstealing, arrows coming out of nowhere, ...). I therefore don't expect to add this feature.

`Ignore' interface
Hello everyone, I have been trying to put together a small patch that allows players to selectively ignore other players. However, the current user interface is less than elegant and has received some deserved criticism. In order to improve the UI, I would like to ask for suggestions, and in particu...

Re: Magic Skill Icons
Othello, Both the ingot and the cube work for me. I find that the ingot has stronger connotations to metal for me personally, though the cube is more symmetric, which seems more appropriate for magic... so it's a tough call. As for snow, have you considered making the background a light or cyan-ish ...

Re: A Poptart
Hi, I am not entirely certain about the origins of the word `poptart', but the things I have come to know under that label are flat, rectangular, and overly sweet; they consist of a crust filled with a processed, sugary paste that defies description. On the outside, they are further coated with some...

Re: Where does a bot begin?
Peavey, thank you for the reply; I fully agree with your central point. However, it seems to me that we cannot expect the motivation for all of these to disappear very soon. Until then, some people may feel the desire to automate some of these tasks for one reason or another-- and that leaves the qu...

Where does a bot begin?
Hi, if I may briefly paraphrase Platyna, botting seems to begin when players use some client to tmw that gives them an unfair advantage. This sounds reasonable to me, but advantages may come about in many forms-- for example, an argument could be made that people who use the current svn client (with...

Re: Magic Skill Icons
Othello,
it is hard to find a good shape for metal (cue the Led Zeppelin jokes), but I don't think that a rough cube is what I would most associate with it-- to me it conveys more of an `unrefined ore' image than a metal one. Perhaps a (shiny) ingot shape would be more appropriate?

Too many experience points awarded in party combat
Hi, I was recently awarded first 507 and then 548 experience points when fighting (individual) mountain snakes. In both cases, the snakes had received minimal damage from another character travelling with me. My guess is that the code responsible for splitting up experience points between different ...

Re: Desert complete revision conceptualization
Crush, I don't know how exactly this is supposed to work. Maybe you should experiment a bit with the particle engine yourself to learn its possiblities and limitations. A good starting point is the wiki article: http://wiki.themanaworld.org/index.php/Particle_engine Thanks for the pointer! I experim...
