When you plan to work on some part, you don't need to remove another one which is unrelated to the first. to improve your car lights you do not need to remove the tyres (yes I exaggerate a bit, but no more than you do). There would be no complaint about o11c if he didn't take a special care of having peole he doesn't like for some reason out of the project; with some success.
remark:
Anti spam system: it still has to be improved, because players are still randomly kicked, and it would be unbearable if 4144 didn't find a work around 3 years ago, and wrote an efficient patch on the client.
About the poll: since at least a third of the 500% "pros" occured an hour and a half before the poll was closed, I have zero trust in it and I am not alone. It looks like a massive call to help and close before it could get back to no (in the best case)
Also, for years it has been said to players that lost item consecutive to bugs would NOT be replaced. o11c repeatedly said that they could be liars (this included me even if I asked for nothing). This time, the only (known) players who have items replaced are.... developers. Imagine the effect on players.
Maybe some of the improvements were important for TMW, but the effect of such a release is as disastrous as were the unfinished buggy quests releases in 2010. Jenalya stopped that. but Jenalya has left the development, and the image you give is the one of a boat with no Captain.
Did you notice that there were only three dizains of players at the beginning of the european afternoon and east coast morning, a saturday? Check the mean number just six months ago, compare it with 2 or 3 years ago too...

We're doing the best we can here.. SO MANY things have gone wrong. And it's nothing technical.. It's people arguing and hating each other and even *actively* sabotaging each other! The social aspect and fighting in TMWC is 100% the reason why this release didn't go very well.
Nard wrote:I agree with you except on the technical (and content) aspect, but the unsolved technical gaps may also be a consequence of the other aspect. I am here since Easter 2010 and my first idea was to contribute with sound and music which is one of the fields I know a lot. But as soon as I tried to bring my 50 cents I was agressed (or I felt so) by people who are obviously ignorant or (very) low skilled. I also saw DOS and DDOS attacks against people who think different, account cams, despise, botting cheats. All those things are against open source spirit imo. I always met social bullshit behaviour, more in developer "team" than among players, just as if they wanted to destroy what they are building, just as Penelope did long ago. The way the "move" was conducted is not different: it is easy to agree against one person, but it is stupid (and I weigh my words) to take the decision to build a project when you have no idea of what you are going to do, and how, and more when the "team" has so few in common; and more when members or supporters leave the boat six months after the project started. You cannot build a castle on moving sands especially when people don't want even to hear you (yes, hear, not listen!) and let their ego speak rather than reason. Not all developers were like that but a lot among the best ones left because of that and players are fed up with that. they are fed up that the ego has priority over their fun, that's why they leave, and as noone wants or is able to make the dirty communication job or have interest in it because it is transparent to players...
o11c: he is a problem by himself. He behave somewhat correctly until the move, because of Platyna, in front of whom he had to bend. But now, he is a leader and his attitude on forums since the move shows it clearly (he may be a bit different in private): "I do what I want and FY if you don't agree. you are an idiot if you don't think like me" He is also able to abuse of the compassion his disease may inspire to others though he is perfectly able to behave better; I was surprised to meet this kind of behaviour when, as a teen and a bit later, I had holydays with disabled persons; they are just humans like everyone.
If you (collective) want this project to continue, someone has to shout "STOP! This projects priorities are (put what you decide here). You have to work for and with other people, all in the same direction. You have to respect forum contributors, even more when they are noobs. Put your ego in your pocket, comply or you leave".
When nobody does that, the actual isssue is the first of a serie which will end in the project collapse either because players quit or admins resign; I fear that Frost resigns before o11c because he showed RL constraint before the move so he is the "weak" point.
In my opinion, and I said it to o11c at the move time, the best solution for TMW (server) is switch to evolserv, make xxx or yyyy?, zzz? server development leader.. server development should focus with priority one on lag problem; then on content development (add features instead of removing some ); Add debug points to code that is suspected to be buggy. rewrite existing code only when needed or nothing else to do. No suppression should occur if you can't explain what it does AND you plan to replace it with an improved better one; even in this case old code should be backed up commented and archived, just in case. Code should be commented and documented properly, it is not the case at the moment. This is not how o11c works.
I am now rather pessimistic about the future.
Cordially yours

PS California Law requires TOS and Privacy statement, on Wiki and forum, I think wiki can hold the web site and game ones. Just my 50 cents.
I agree with almost all of that, and have done what I can to get things moving in the right direction. A few other TMWC members are yelling "STOP!" too and trying to define some project goals and a code of conduct on the way developers should behave.
There's really nothing more I, personally, can do at this point. My energies are spent.. TMW is no longer fun to me again.. I'm taking some time away. Until people can work together instead of constantly fighting.. Until people can be welcoming and nice to new people who want to help out.. I'm done. This is toxic and not good for me as a person.
This is Toxic for anyone. If you cannot stop to let your auto-destruction complexes speak and go on to blind yourself, this project has not much more that 6 month to live. You can ban me or censor me once again, I have no care about it, I feel obliged to do so because of the nice ideas that were the basis of this project, because of the huge amount of efforts that authors put in it (including o11c

Note: Since the beginning of this project the login server and the char server do not even have a way to quit properly and a decent management interface, the char server has barely the minimum. If it is enough for a coder, or maybe for the production server, it is a considerable cumulative time loss for content developers and probably to server developer too.
