The problem , with the way it is done at the moment, is that you could also have needed 200 logs while some players cant get i with as few as 1 log (the number of required logs obeys to a geometric law). It is possible to change the random drawing to something more wise, but the script language doesn't make it that easy. I could be possible to extend the server code to allow easier scripting but there is no plan to do it afaik. TMW brasil found an interesting solution to this problem and asks for several items before you are able to get the bow crafted, thus makes the quest a bit more "realistic" than a simple random drawing.oddshocks wrote:I respectfully disagree, I think that since it is currently the best bow in the game for the majority of the EXP levels, it should be difficult to get. It took me around 100 logs myself, and though it took a while, I knew that I was a rare case and that I would be getting a hefty reward. TMW is quest based in terms of how you gain rewards like items and skills, and this is one of the best items, and the quest is not even that hard, just a bit grindy if you're unlucky.
However, if this was not such a near-top-tier item and able to be gotten so early, maybe it should be less grindy. But even then it is supposedly usually around 20 logs required, statistically speaking.

It would also be a good decision to remove that 1/20 logs bit since I went through about 60 before I got mine and I see others have gone over that as well. The farmers scythe was a ton easier to get for the same +75 damage. I'm new so I could be wrong but if I had put my points into something like strength I could probably be hitting higher with the scythe which is easier to get. Least that is what would make sense to anyone coming from any other similar game.
Like this so far but it definitely needs some work and I plan to play it out a bit longer before giving it a true review. Though I am more annoyed with the magic system than the fact I wasted a ton of time gathering logs for the bow. Yes it's a pain but I collected a ton of roots in the process too which are decently valuable so to me that kind of helps the matter. Unless I am a rare case and have extremely good luck at getting roots o-o?

You are.Vanguard wrote:I'm new so I could be wrong
For one thing, you're ignoring the fact that arrows also give +20 to damage. But more significantly ...Vanguard wrote:but if I had put my points into something like strength I could probably be hitting higher with the scythe which is easier to get. DEX controls attack chances for all weapons. DEX controls damage for bows and STR controls damange for melee weapons. Also, warriors have to put points in VIT so that they don't die; archers can just not get hit.
So, unless it's the endgame where you're overflowing with stat points, the actual damage you get out of a bow will be greater than that out of a melee weapon.
The only reason you don't want to use a bow is because arrows are expensive. Sometime in the level 30-40 range it starts getting worth it, however.
Plus, archer is a lot more fun!

2.) Those points (besides o11c's post) might help you:
- I rewrote the whole wiki's Magic page in November/December so it's much, much more accurate (see previous version
). If you still have problems understanding something, please post in this thread. I really want new people to understand as much as possible.
- I know you won't like to hear that, but IMO the problem with the Forest Bow and its quest is just that new players get the idea of getting this bow ASAP which is wrong. The quest's minimum level is too low for the best bow until level 90 and for the difficulty of the quest (when having bad luck). It's another balance problem which hopefully will be solved in the (far) future.
- I also created this wiki page because several people didn't know that you can also just buy the bow for 20,000 GP
- Also feel free to ask for trades: older players have tons of Raw Logs, so just check the worth of them (and if you want to trade for other items instead of money also check their value) at the ManaMarket's history page and make your offer.
