Something I threw together in artweaver in a few minutes.
Update: Added Sharpness
The sword fits the hand\body ratio perfectly.
The reason why it was blurred was because I rotated it.
I believe large swords would be popular. Manga characters have large swords such as in Bleach and Inuyasha.
Bleach and Inuyasha are both very popular shows.
Note: Both of the shows are of a Japanese genre.

looks pretty good, i especially like the shading of the blade.
my critiques are
-rediculously blurred
- handle is too short and the handguard on it is much too small to be practical
like my avatar? i drew a concept of old savior plate which is now outaded in a bout 5 mins. if you have an avatar froma game you would like me to draw for you give me a PM.
The problem here is that we still don't have a playerset animation for sword attacks, so except during walking animation the sword can't be seen.
Despite this is an amazing work, I'd prefer to start with something simpler and smaller so that it can be easily reused for other types of swords.
We are talking about a fantasy role playing game here. Realism is less important than awesomeness.
The only rule which determines the efficiency of equipment is the rule of cool.

Exactly! There are cases where realism is a good choice and cases where it's not. A small character with a huge sword is cute and amusing. Think about the devlings in Wesnoth!
If I’ve understood it correctly the current plan is to have the ability to equip weapons non-dependent on Str and so on, but rather affecting the effects. Though perhaps really big/heavy weapons could be somewhat Str-dependent?
Slightly off topic, just chipping in to say that some Devling-like creatures would be cool in TMW, I really like the Devling Nailers... (Link to images.)

agreed, there are lots of manga and anime out there were the main character is a guy with a massive sword. Bleach, Inuyasha, Basterd are just an example of some of the more poplar ones.

In case of TMW large weapons make sense in two aspects. Aesthetically because you can put more details into large weapon sprites and gameplay-wise because large weapons justify large attack zones. And knowing how to use your weapons attack zone will be very important on TMWServ.
