Depends on what way your looking at it, well as i can see it "The Mana World" has been around for (How long?) 4-5 Years (correct me if im wrong).
And Aethyra is only like 10 months (not sure about this, correct me on this one too) old, and ye, we are pretty bussy bunch, who are working hard and (personally for me) I think we are doing apretty good job in the Art and Mapping and have to say Tametomo is doing Very good job, and even you people have to admit it, and ye we usually have 3-16 players, and ye, we are making huge progress everyday, and yes The mana world have more people , but why are you guys starting to compare ? if you know that you cant compare something that is not comperable, (my English isent that Great)...
you cant compare something that has been there for 5-4 years and have over 200 people and 40 people involved in helping as DEV/Artist and stuff and even if we do compare it , ye we got agood bit of our own items done that you dont, e.g. The sheilds, and ye you guys have lots of work done too , with awsome standards.........

some people will prefer acat rather than adog.

From the programming point of view the cooperation with Tametomo (current Aethyra programmer) was quite fruitful so far. We are sharing a gitorious account with Aethyra and a lot of client improvements from Aethyra found their way into TMW and vice versa.
It would of course be easier for developers and players from both projects when Aethyra would just use the default TMW client and Tametomo would contribute to the development of TMW directly, but when Tametomo feels that internal discussions in the TMW team are more time-consuming than just cherry-picking what we want from each other we can keep it that way.

Every game can't have everything that all other games have, it has to be unique somehow. It seems that TMW attitude towards forked projects is quite bitter and that tends to lead to separating developers and/or contributers. What you guys need to realize is that a lot of the user features that have greatly improved TMW have come from one of the forks.
Instead of bickering over mindless drama, focus should be reapplied to the major issues that TMW has, such as documentation in parts of the code, the movement system, etc.
Everyone needs to get along.

Especially the cooperation with the latter is very fruitful and inspired a lot of bugfixes and improvements at TMWServ.

I hope the forks end up radically different from the source, though. If the matter comes down to only differences in management and leadership issues, these games will be in direct competition which is no good for either game.
I have seen a game split and share product, and what resulted was the same game twice. The players slowly turned the projects unofficially into one game for English speaking people and one for non-English (in their case mostly German). It was unfortunate because both games offered unique quests and items, but really English speaking people were just not very welcome in the branched version.
If the two games are able to share everything (even art and maps that would be awesome) then there must be extreme differences in game play, like someone said how PvP is handled and how magic is handled, and the economy in general.
ps. the sharing that Crush mentioned is so respectable, you guys are awesome for doing what you do.
