If everything's done, can we declare a formal end to this thread please ?
It scratches me if this thread turns negative
what's the point of a community if we dont get a +ve output in the broader perspective ? it was just a li'l effort with a li'l controversial influence :)

... honestly ... GreenPeace Eco-Warriors aren't the only possible input for the «not-born-as-whales» members of this forum ...

So, let's try those «links to something else» aimed at :

I can only speak for myself here:
Greenpeace is a non profit organisation, at least they say so. And this is, for me the only positive thing.

They are too aggressive. It is common knowledge that they always have problems with the laws. Continuously members of Greenpeace have to defend themselves for some aggressive stuff they do. A quote from here -> http://globallychanging.blogspot.com/20 ... h-law.html
Today a judge found 8 members of Greenpeace guilty of public order offences when they scaled the roof of the Deputy Prime Minister's residence and scared the hell out of his wife (who thought they were terrorists)
Mostly what they do is just for the show. Like something that was on the news in Germany some time ago. There where big discussions about laying batteries (you know where 6 hens are squeezed into a small cage). They went at one and stole a hen there.
Well great they stole a hen... what about the rest? What about laws like breaking an entry? Damaging other peoples property? But they don't care about going official ways, trying to reason, they just do something not caring about the consequences.

They go too far with actions like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMzF6kLeqJo
Getting in the way of a ship because it is fishing whales. Now apart from the fact that whales are really endangered, what do they wanna reach with blocking the way? The people on it just do their jobs, they are not the people who make decisions. But Greenpeace risks lifes. In this case even their owns, because their ship was a lot smaller. In an interview someone was trying to sound reasonable by saying that the captain of the Japanese ship did not follow the rules to avoid collision. Think deeper and you know that that guy was talking bull**it.

There is too much negative stuff. They crossed so many lines that it is not countable any more. They act as if there are no other ways then being radical.
Here a few links for those who are interested:

http://www.highnorth.no/library/movemen ... -ac-pr.htm
http://paradigmsanddemographics.blogspo ... eaten.html
Google has a lot, just those many things are not the first hits - of course not. But there is a lot to find.

Like I always say it in such discussions, just try to do your little part of saving environment and animals. The very very little things everyone can do add up. Just like recycling / reusing things, like using a bike for shorter distances or walk, like caring what products you buy, like not throwing your trash on the streets (even chewing gum belongs in a trashcan), like carrying the hedgehog you see crossing a busy street, like leaving wasp nests alone as long as they don't harm you, like picking up a hurt bird and bringing it to a vet, like going to a pet shelter and ask if they need some help like walking dogs.... There is really enough you can do in the small scale.
Big companies like greenpeace are just for show "Look we are sooooo goooood, we are doing so much for the world"

leela, sis, listen.
i am amazed the way you are talking against. I am not any active member there. & of course you try to do stuffs yourself. but is that enough ? will it work unless it's done in a bigger scale ?
in my circle i know of some knowledgeable persons who talked for green peace. Also guys who didnt.
I think you shouldnt talk against so harshly.
Repeat, something is better than nothing. everyone has his/her limitations.
I myself always try to find the positive sides.
& i doubt how many of you can plant a tree on the soil using your own hand. But after I got into my varsity I am detached from some of the activities that i did earlier.

Thanks Leela, I"m glad you took the effort to reply in detail ... so I just have to support your answer.

So, by the way, what is worth to be done on a large scale ?
Once again : stop giving your daily meal/supplies/stuff-money to the Agro-Industrials ... as simple as that ...

i agree with.
but then comes another point, should we use technology ? should we even play this game ? Should we even survive ?
I am positive of life, I believe in enjoy, responsibility, & to survive.

well cowboy: To do something in a bigger scale doesn't mean to force your fiew on others, doesn't mean to continuously break laws, doesn't mean to threaten companies and people. To do something in a bigger scale can be gathering a lot of people and and protest, it can be find some people who help you to open a pet shelter for abused pets, it can be even getting informations about stuff and then reporting to authorities, it can mean interviewing people and get those things public.
I tell you what big things happened in Germany:
An organisation called "green city" got some voice in Munich, what are they doing? They organize huge events for people, and cause no harm. For example the blade night, where like 3000 people are going through Munich by inline skates. This organisation gets even support by the authorities. for example the police helps keeping the streets save. I was helping there for 2 years.
Munich also has zones where you are not allowed to drive unless you have an allowance.
Germany has one or two days a year where no car is allowed to drive, unless with special allowance, like public transportation.
In all Germany it is a law to recycle, and you can get into a lot of trouble if you don't.
Around Bielefeld (also Germany) you even get yellow plasticbags for your plastic trash for free so the trash truck will always pick up the right bags.

Recently here in Romania something happened:
People used to put there trash in bags or boxes on the sides of the roads when the trash truck came.
Now the city government gave out trash cans to the people, for free. So it's not going to be that unhygienic anymore.

@cowboy again: I am not saying we should not use technology but there are ways to produce stuff in ways that are not polluting our environment like crazy, alone filters in factories are not a big deal but help a lot. Also producing long lasting stuff would help a lot, it would produce less trash. Reusing wood and paper would help a lot because we would not take away so many of the places where other species live. Technology can actually be pretty useful to produce, recycle, etc and all in a more healthy way.
The problem is, companies don't care about that. They care about the money.

Things happen, big things happen too, but big things happen slowly.
